Battle of the Highlighting Primers: MAC vs IPKN

Strobing Highlighter Primer Creams

Strobing and highlighting is a big trend in beauty. Brands are developing tons of products around the trend. I got my hands on some of them from sticks to primers. The most extreme to me is a primer as it's setting the base of the full glow. I received a highlighting primer in my December Birchbox from IPKN. I have been using it on my cheekbones as a highlighter but wanted to compare to MAC's strobe cream. Let's see shall we:

MAC Cosmetics Strobe Cream $33 - "A moisturizer that boosts the look of dull skin and luminizes with iridescent particles. Super-powered with potent botanicals, it boosts the look of dull, flat or tired-looking skin with nutritious vitamins and a mega-dose of green tea. Brightens and clarifies with iridescent particles and antioxidants. Adds the softest glow to skin in sunlight to spotlight." There are different shades. I went with Pinklite (the original) because I'm fair skin and felt it would match my skintone best. It is very subtle especially when I put it on side by side with IPKN.

IPKN Radiant Cream Primer $28 - "Great foundation requires, well, a great foundation. This creamy SPF 15 primer creates a smooth, radiant canvas for makeup, refining pores and enhancing skin tone. And thanks to the blend of nourishing fruit extracts and shimmer pearl powder, your skin will glow whether you’re wearing this under foundation or under nothing at all."

With no makeup so excuse the face
With makeup

Decided to try one on each side of my face because I knew the difference would be subtle so if I did 2 full makeup looks it might be hard to gauge. Even when first putting on the IPKN primer you can see more shimmer than compared to MAC's. I did the same makeup and see that IPKN's appears more in certain parts of the face especially the nose and forehead (which I don't always want to accentuate). Both claim to boost the look of dull skin and giving you a soft glow. However, putting side by side on my face IPKN's is definitely much more of a radiant glow to it. Maybe too radiant lol that I might keep it to a highlighter in certain areas whereas MAC's could be an all over primer. Both wore evenly throughout the day with MAC's side dimming a little but not a big enough difference to call a clear winner here.

Both side by side
Which primer would you choose?
