My August Birchbox

This month's Birchbox theme was Cool Down. "It's time to eke out every last bit of summer - and for that you'll need product that don't slow you down. Since there's nothing like uncooperative hair to suck up time and energy, we're doing our part to help." Here's what I received:

Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray (1 oz/2 oz $22) | Avène Micellar Lotion (.8 fl oz/3.3 fl oz $12) | Marcelle Hydra-C 24H Energizing Hydrating Gel (.24 oz/1.7 oz $23.95) | R+Co BADLANDS Dry Shampoo Paste (.25 oz/2.2 fl oz $28) | Manna Kadar Cosmetics Day-Dream Eyeshadow in Fantasy

I've been on an Oribe trip with Birchbox these past few boxes and I'm not complaining. So when I could customize one of my samples I selected this beach spray. Summer is all about the beach waves so wanted to compare to some others. "Get beach-to-bombshell hair—tousled, touchable waves with sun-kissed shine—without the salty stiffness. Our moisturizing glamour spray uses rich extracts and exotic oils for lush repair and sultry texture." I only tried it a small sample of my hair and it worked fairly well without my usual routine of having to sleep overnight on it. It could also just be a texturizing spray.

Excuse the smudged mascara

I'm not usually an eyeshadow girl but this color is fairly nude enough. Could work in with other shades as well.

More micellar water! I received a sample from Avène last month and have been enjoying it. "3-in-1 no rinse cleanser, toner and make-up remover based on a micelle principle that releases cleansing agents upon contact with the skin leaving it soft and moisturized." I really liked this sample and it's for sensitive skin. It's so small though so I don't want to quickly run out so I'm going to keep for my travels.

I thought I had tried all the dry shampoos in the world but dry shampoo... paste? I was definitely intrigued. "One part dry shampoo, one part styling paste and 100% badass on days when you want to add texture and hold to slept-on hair.  Good for: Adding amazing second-day texture and absorbing oil. Its matte finish and reworkable hold mean no build up." Now I watched the video that was on the site but still nope. Could not figure out the best way to work it into my hair... I'll have to keep playing with it but for right now not feeling the paste. Much prefer sprays.

"Fight against dryness and the effects of external stressors with this energizing hydrating gel that deeply hydrates for 24 hours. Its invigorating formula, containing antioxidants, cucumber and green tea extracts as well as vitamins C and E, protects against harsh climatic elements while restoring the skin's protective barrier function for a bright, glowing complexion. Its ultra-light, jelly-like texture is non-sticky and melts into the skin, leaving it instantly refreshed with an alcohol-free cooling sensation." I also really liked this sample. When I wore it I got compliments on my beautiful skin (or it could be the sweat). I'm going to keep it for the winter to see if it keeps my skin moisturized then.

What did you get in your Birchbox this month?
