Book Reviews: The Happy Vegan & Tidying Up

Book Reviews: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up & The Happy Vegan
Books: "Oh hey, its me!" It's been a hot minute since I've finished a book. I started reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up around Christmas since I got it as a gift and well that didn't turn out so well. I've had two books sitting on my coffee table waiting for me to finish them so I did. I also ordered 4 books I wanted to read for the summer so I needed to get that started! Here are my quick thoughts on the 2 recent books I finished:

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing - This was a big craze (a year ago Kim!) so was curious to see what the hype was about and we have hoarding tendencies in our family. Long story short: I didn't even read the last few pages. I'm not sure if it was the translation or the different cultures, but the 2016 feminist in me couldn't handle the tone "a classy woman wears a silk robe to bed." You may have seen me Snapchatting the ridiculous lines from the book these past few months. It's a very lofty concept that might be helpful to some, but I live in a studio apartment in Manhattan so I am often tidying up because there's no room to actually hoard. Really didn't find any "life-changing magic."

"Nothing will benefit human health and increase the chances for survival of life on Earth as much as the evolution to a vegetarian diet" - Einstein

The Happy Vegan by Russell Simmons - As a relatively new vegan, I was curious to see what Mr. Simmons had to say, a man who has been vegan for 20+ years. I enjoy his Snaps as he takes this vegan thing to a whole level with meditation and such. I found the information inside kind of repetitive since I already know all the health benefits of veganism. He takes a holistic approach about yoga, meditation, being part of the Earth blah blah which I'm not quite there with my vegan life. So if you're interested in the vegan lifestyle or need an extra push to change up your diet then I'd recommend this read. But if you're like me, already a vegan, then you can skip it.
