DIY: #IDFWU Clutch

Image via

We all know and love the hashtag #IDFWU from Big Sean's hit song. I've been wanting a clutch with the hashtag but had no luck. So what do you... DIY! I followed a similar method to my Popbasic DIY clutch. Here's what you'll need:

- Plain clutch. I opted for Lulu's Roll Along White Clutch because it's vegan leather and wanted a white background.
- Stencils. Preferably plastic since the paper ones can tear.
- Leather paint. I found some for cheap on Amazon. Additional: I would also buy a finisher to avoid chipping/peeling.
- Sponge/brush. Depending how you want the lettering.

Step 1: Layout your clutch flat on flat surface. Then line-up up your stencils. You can use a ruler but my stencils were a straight line so I followed them. Also note, I had to make my own hashtag stencil. I found an image online and cut it out. A lot more complicated then I would have hoped lol.

Step 2: I used a sponge to fill in the blank areas because I wanted a more "spray paint" feel to the lettering. I applied the paint directly to the sponge then went along the stencils. Feel free to do it other ways. Apply paint directly if you want a more bold, defined look to the letters.

Step 3: Let dry. As you can see, I opted to tape down the stencils to help hold them in place and along a straight line. Let dry at least 3 hours or more (depending how thick your coat is).

Step 4: This is an additional step but suggest applying a finisher to help seal the paint. You can use a sponge or rag or brush to apply a thin layer after paint has dried.

Voila! As you can see, the hashtag got a little messed up. SO HARD because you had to cut out a small square for the middle and it wasn't attached to a stencil. Blah. But I still love it and will rock it!

P.S. Apologies for getting Big Sean's "I Don't Fuck With You" stuck in your head.
