My June Beauty Product Favorites (And Not So Favorite)

Summer is in full swing with temperatures breaking 90 degrees so it's time to bust out the summer beauty products. Here were the products I enjoyed (and did not enjoy) this month:

What to Wear: 4th of July

4th of July Outfit Inspiration

July 4th is this weekend so time to get out your red, white and blue. Whether it's in your outfit or on your nails. I like to get festive. To avoid going overboard balance out with a plain tee and a bold necklace then a navy hat.

June TV Reviews

Good lord was it a busy month for TV! True Detective returned with a new cast and a new story. Still watching all my May shows (although I finished Grace & Frankie on Netflix). I definitely didn't watch everything but hopefully I've captured enough of a mix for you to find a new show to enjoy.

Drugstore Dupe: Stila vs New York Color

Back with another dupe for ya! If you're looking for a long-lasting red lip stain then I may have found one for you and it's under $3! I love my Stila lip stains but they can be pricey. This Stila Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick is $22. So when I received New York Color's Smooch Proof Liquid Lip Stain ($2.99) I wanted to see if it could compare. Here are the results:

New Haircut

Yesterday I chopped off about 4 inches. Needed a good trim and added in some lighter layers. My girl Linzee at Ted Gibson's salon always hooks me up. Whether it's getting my winter bangs or talking me through cutting off 7 inches (it was a big deal for me lol). I feel lighter and looking forward to styling some summer beach waves.

Mani of the Week: A Vision in Pearl

This weekend I cleaned my apartment so my nails needed a little TLC. I was inspired by the lilac color of this Sally Hansen's Pearl Crush™ in Shell & Tell so I layered it over a coat of ncLA's As If. Sally Hansen recently released this Pearl Crush collection made up of eight new Special Effect polishes that give your nails an eye-catching, shimmery finish with larger glitter chunks. It matched my Popbasic Dreamer necklace almost perfectly:

What I've Read Recently

I've been gone for awhile but now I'm back with a quick recap of what I've been reading lately.

"Reality Bites Back" by Jennifer Pozner - A hard hitting look at the effects of reality TV on our society/culture. Bad news: it's not good... especially for women. I knew these shows were trashy but wow Jenn Pozner really puts it in a perspective.

Battle of the Concealer Sticks: Benefit vs Smashbox

I've always struggled with dark circles no matter how much sleep I get or no matter how many eye creams I try. When it comes to concealers, I find myself preferring sticks because they blend well with both liquid and powder foundations. I've had Smashbox's for years (so long that I don't see it available anywhere!) and it has always been my go-to. However, on a whim I picked up Benefit's Fake Up concealer. I decided to do a comparison review to see if this newbie product could knock out an ol' favorite of mine. Here are the results:

Happy Birthday Bro!

Happy Birthday baby bro... although you're not much of a baby now. This year we both celebrated monumental graduations. He's almost an official lawyer! Glad New York persuaded you after an initial bad first impression lol. Thanks for letting me you use for the blog. I've turned you into quite the fashion critic.

Don't forget we used to be the same height at one point in our lives.

3 Trends I Predicted in My Masters Program

I finished my Masters in Integrated Marketing at NYU in December and finally walked in May. I joined the program because I didn't have a degree directly related to marketing and found it interfered with my job search. However, while there I learned that my on job experience had prepared me plenty. We would discuss current trends in the industry and I'd sometimes find myself in disagreement with other students & professors about where the industry was going. Turns out... I was right! lol Here are the three biggest predictions I made (#humblebrag):

Dinner With Jessica Szohr Event Recap

Jessica looking ravishing
I recently had the pleasure of attending an intimate dinner with former Gossip Girl star, Jessica Szohr. I was there to cover her upcoming show on USA, Complications, for Found Remote. She plays Gretchen - a smoking, tattooed lesbian nurse who is mixed up with a bad crowd. A much different role for Jessica than Vanessa on Gossip Girl and much much more different than she is in real life.

Father's Day Gift Guide

"Dad Swagger" card via McBitterson's $5 // "Universal Man: The Lives of John Maynard Keynes" by by Richard Davenport-Hines $20 // Father's Day inspired Mantry crate (1 month sub $75)

I often find my Dad is the hardest person to shop for. Rarely does he give a list. He's the type that if he wants something then he simply just buys it for himself. I also try to mix in a bit of sense of humor with my gifts. In the past I've purchased him a punching bag referee while he watches the Giants. In all honesty, the whole family could have used it this past season. I found this Father's Day card this year and couldn't resist. While trying to decide what to get him I usually do the following:

Birchbox x The Tig

For Birchbox this month I selected the curated box from The Tig. "Since it's summer, I have travel on the brain, which is why I've filled the box with products perfect for an international jaunt on a special staycation. Cheers to feet in the sand and your head in the clouds!" I enjoyed this box as there were many new brands I hadn't tried before. Here's what was inside:

Movie Review: Netflix's "Hot Girls Wanted"

P-o-r-n. Four little letters yet such a controversial subject. Rashida Jones (of Parks and Recreation) has been driving the conversation as best as she can to get us to talk about this industry and how it is affecting society. She produced a Netflix original documentary "Hot Girls Wanted" which takes a look inside the world of "amateur" porn. Real life amateur 18 year olds girls are replacing the professionals for a more "authentic" feel to these wildly popular videos. You may remember the porn star from Duke well she got her start just like the girls in this documentary did.

My Love Affair of Bucket Bags

I've been wanting a bucket bag for awhile but wasn't sure how practical they were. Then Banana Republic stole my heart. During Memorial Day they had a great sale and I went a bit overboard. No joke - I carried my new bucket bag out of Banana Republic like a baby. I took a photo of it as soon as I got home like a proud momma but felt it deserved it's own photoshoot.

My June Julep Maven Box

This month's Julep Maven box was all about diving in. They offered jelly polishes this month, which I'm not quite a fan of so I opted for more beauty products. Here's what I received:

Summer Dating Tips

Summer seems to stir a bit of a bug for finding a beau. Maybe because you want to find a beach buddy or perhaps because the warm weather combined with a visual of muscles sets you a flutter. Dating is definitely a different game in the summer. If you missed my interview with Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing stars Fredrik Eklund and Luis Ortiz for Dating Girl, you're in luck! I loved their advice  so much that I thought it was worth repeating. They offered advice for both married and single folks.

Another summer, another playlist. I'm still grooving to last year's playlist but here are some new tunes I'm loving:

What to Pack in Your Beach Bag

Before you hit the beach this summer, here are some options for your beach bag:

- First, a great pair of sunnies. I've been wearing a great pair of Stella McCartney's but these are just $29.90 at Express.
