Best & Worst Dressed at the 87th Annual Academy Awards

It's the award show the fashion world has been waiting for - the Oscars! Every year I try to watch all the nominated movies; however, many were not of my interest. Two movies that I do want to see and come out on Netflix soon (couldn't do it by today, huh?!) are Whiplash and Birdman. Despite the controversy, I still wanted to see who would bring it to the red carpet. Here are my picks for Best and Worst Dressed of the night:

Best Dressed - Lupita Nyong'o in custom Calvin Klein and Jennifer Lopez in Elie Saab. This might be a first but two presenters tonight out-shined the nominees tonight. Lupita was draped in thousands of pearl in a dress that fit her to perfection. J.Lo showed up in the princess gown we would all want to wear to the Oscars. Thank you ladies for bringing it!

The biggest trend on the red carpet was white with beaded details (especially pearls!). Felicity Jones looked gorgeous in McQueen. She's been a red carpet delight this season. Glad she turned up for the Oscars. Jennifer Aniston was effortless in Versace. Her body looked amazing. I wish she did her hair more and had a statement accessory. Lady Gaga showed up in a custom gown with ridiculous gloves in full Gaga fashion. The dress was spectacular. Julianne Moore wore custom Chanel. I was underwhelmed with this look as she is predicted to take home the award tonight. It washed her out. (and she did win!)

Continuing the white trend were the risk takers. Marion Cotillard's Dior Couture dress was all about the back. Quite frankly I loved it. It was fresh and modern and she is stunning. Kerry Washington went with her trusty Miu Miu in this simple gown. She was a presenter so she went simple. You could tell she looked comfortable and felt good.

A surprising trend on the carpet was sleeves. Usually reserved for the older ladies who want to cover their arms, we saw a lot of Hollywood's young, hot actresses wearing this trend. Emma Stone looked stunning in this Oscar-worthy gold number. Her makeup was also perfection. Margo Robbie took a risk in this YSL gown. I am personally not loving it but necklace is to die for. Chrissy Tiegen turned it up even though she was there supporting her husband. Go girl! Gwyneth Paltrow opted for a single sleeved custom Ralph & Russo gown in another trend - pastels.

Now can we talk about this post-baby killer bodies?! Rosamund Pike slayed in this red Givenchy gown. That waist - hello! Zoe Saldana looked gorgeous in blush Versace.

And now to the not so great...

When Statement Necklaces Go Wrong. Cate Blanchett is usually flawless but this necklace just ruined this Margiela dress for me. And Scar Jo's necklace just completely ruined this look (she is also post-baby!).

Worst Dressed. Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent. She's bored me all red carpet season even though she's in one of the hottest movies. Naomi Watts in Armani. Normally she is flawless but this was definitely a risk. Not a favorite of mine. Nicole Kidman's look could have been saved without that red belt. It made it look too holiday.

Who were your picks for Best and Worst Dressed?

  1. I loved Lupita (I mean, of course), Zoe and Rosamund. I think Dakota Johnson looked fine, but she just seems so boring and that interview with her mom was super awkward. It just doesn't seem like she has a great attitude.

  2. J. Lo's dress is all kinds of incredible!!

  3. whiplash was AMAZING, as in i was stressed out the entire movie. but so glad i saw it. jk deserved that oscar.

  4. JLo looked amazing!! If it wasn't for the necklace than ScarJo would have nailed it!

  5. @Sherin right? And her "party" dress for the after party was also amazing!

  6. @Nnenna haha yes it was awkward. Yeah, she doesn't do it for me. Yes, her body looked amazing but I felt like the necklace overwhelmed her. Would be cooler with an ear cuff or bold earring.

  7. @ElleSees.blogspot.com I finally saw it :) Yes! Wasn't a fan of his speech though because my mother kept throwing it in my face lol
