My January Beauty Product Favorites (And Not So Favorite)

First month of the new year and I've got some great products to share with you. Some of these products I've been using longer than a month so now they are finally getting some love. This is probably my most expensive round-up but trust me all these products are worth investing in (or at least I think so). Here's what I've been enjoying this month:

Review: Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare™ Alpha Beta® Peel

After reading POPSUGAR's list of iconic beauty products to try I've been on a one woman mission to try the ones I haven't. First was the Dr. Jart+ BB Bounce Beauty Balm and this week is another doctor, Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare™Alpha Beta® Peel ($88 for 30 packets). It is apparently a cult favorite in the beauty industry so I had high hopes!

Start the New Year Right With #FitTeaDetox

If you read this blog often enough you'll know I'm a major tea drinker. I think tea can do wonderful things for your body in a natural way so when FitTea reached out about their 14 day detox, I wanted to test it for myself. The most popular New Year's resolutions are always around health and fitness. FitTea is an all-natural detox tea that super charges and boosts your overall immune system while giving you more energy. Their tagline is "Give us a few weeks and we'll give you a new waistline." A great way to kick off the new year!

Review: Dr. Jart+ BB Bounce Beauty Balm

When POPSUGAR released their iconic beauty products every girl must try, it gave me a laundry list of items to try! One of those items was Dr. Jart+ BB Bounce Beauty Balm ($48) . I'm already a huge fan of their BB cream so my curiosity was peaked.

#DatingGirl: 5 Types of Guys You'll Find on Tinder

Unfortunately Danny Castellano is not one of them

Tinder is a dark, dark, dark place. READ THE PROFILE! Sometimes the freak is hidden in the very last line in a very long About Me description. Or sometimes the freak is hidden by a somewhat normal seeming photo and then they message you. I've learned new slang that I did not wish to know... ever (thanks Urban Dictionary). You may even see some sipping straws. For my latest Dating Girl post, I'm breaking down five guys you will run into on Tinder. Hope over and share your experience!

Happy MLK Day

Today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It's important to stop and remember since the world moves so fast. There's been so much violence and bad news this year and it's only January. May we find some piece and justice soon. I strongly encourage you to read the very important conversation around #BlackLivesMatter. Speak your truth, not others.

My January Julep Maven Box

This month's Julep Maven box was the Chrysalis Collection. I selected the It Girl box because it had 2 of the polishes I wanted to try and added on the lip treatment because I love trying new lip products. Here's what was inside:

Book Review: 'Bad Feminist' by Roxane Gay

Image via
I found my new BFF! I heard so many wonderful things about Roxane Gay's New York Times bestseller Bad Feminist. The book is a collection of essays covering all issues surrounding modern day feminism from portrayals on the big and small screens, to politics, music and all things in between. She even takes on a former professor of mine, but more on that later. Get ready to get schooled. There is a lot of material to digest in this 300+ page book but it's so worth it.

Popbasic: Jovial Collection

Another great Popbasic micro collection to share with you all! The Jovial collection featured a red shirt, leather skinny jeans and a statement necklace. I wore it to brunch with Alex this past weekend. It could also work as a Valentine's Day look (date or no date). Here's how I wore it:

My January Birchbox

This month's Birchbox theme is Let's Do This! I loved the bright and festive packaging. "We're speeding full force into 2014 with a vow to make the most of every minute... samples that are going to help you start the year feeling and looking awesome." Here's what I received:

Tonight I tuned into the Golden Globes to see my favorite gals, Tina Fey & Amy Poehler, host again! They came out strong with their jokes especially towards North Korea lol. But let's get to the fashion, shall we? Let's start with the good...

To Try or To Not Try... Beauty Bucket List

Image via

POPSUGAR made a list of 87 iconic beauty products that you should cross off your beauty bucket list. There were definitely some products I haven't yet tried that intrigued me. There were plenty of familiar faces (for good and bad reasons). Since I had tried quite a few of the products, I thought I'd share my thoughts on whether you should cross them off your bucket list. In no particular order:

Lorac Front of the Line Pro Liquid Eyeliner $23 - Have not tried. If you have, share your thoughts in the comments below!

NIVEA® Creme $3 - YES! Carry one of these tins in my purse all the time.

How to Wear Marsala in 2015

Leather accessories // Chic heels // Lips - Revlon ColorBurst™ Lip Butter in Red Velvet // Nails - Julep Demi

Pantone announced their Color of the Year for 2015 - Marsala. It's described as a "robust and earthy wine red." I'm pretty excited by the color because I think it looks great on all skin types and easily works into any wardrobe. You may even already own the color like I do! Gold details such as buckles on your heels and tote bags match well with this deep color. It also translates well into makeup such as lip stains and nail polish. I already own this Julep polish so time to bust it out again!

How do you plan on wearing Marsala in 2015?

Hello 2015! Here's to hoping 2015 will be a great year for you all. 2014 had it's ups and downs - eventually landed on my feet with a job, finished grad school, dipped my feet in the dating pool again, reached the ripe ol' age of 29 and celebrated 5 years of blogging! Thank you for reading in 2014 and hopefully you'll continue on this journey with me in 2015.
