The hosts of my favorite podcast, Citizen Radio, Jamie Kilstein and Allison Kilkenny wrote a book! They are a listener supported podcast and I have been supporting them for 3 years so I feel a little like a proud momma. The full title - #Newsfail: Climate Change, Feminism, Gun Control, and Other Fun Stuff We Talk About Because Nobody Else Will - sums it up. They cover major topics that mainstream media won't (or only for a brief moment when there's a hot story around it). Topics they frequently cover on their podcast.
It starts with the "lighter" topics and builds up to more "controversial" topics. Citizen Radio's signature is all over it - blending humor with logic. All of these topics seem like common sense but we get swayed by opinions so easily. Climate change is a fact. It's happening. So why are there still debates? John Oliver covered this brilliantly on his show and NO OTHER news program has covered it in this way.
I recommend listening to an episode of their podcast to get a sense of their style. It's a fun and easy read that should have you nodding like "YES!" and also shaking your head horrified. No matter what your political affiliation, these stories are important and the biggest of our time so we need to keep the discussions alive.
