DIY: Chic Glitter Pumpkins

Growing up we always decorate our pumpkins or carve out cool designs. As adults we kind of lose that fun. I always see such adorable pumpkins on Pinterest and want to do them but in the back of my head think it must be a pain. Well this season I took on the challenge! I created two different options on two different types of pumpkins both involving glitter (because of course). It does get messy so I recommend setting up an area you don't mind glitter being. All the tutorials were different so I think go with what items you have available to you. Here's what I did:

Pumpkin(s) - wash before painting
Paint - didn't find a lot about which is best. I used what I had on hand.
Glue - I used Elmer's glue
Glitter - I used nail art glitter from Julep
Supplies (not pictured) - I used a makeup sponge and Q-tips

Pumpkin 1 (big one):

Definitely let it sit for at least an hour. You may need to do more than one coat.

I found the Q-tip was best for drawing on the circles. I used black and purple glitter but the purple only showed up in the pics. I also found this is when the sponge came in handy to help press the glitter. To do the stem, I simply wiped glue with a rag and then poured the glitter.

While Pumpkin 1 dried, I worked on Pumpkin 2 (little one):
I wanted to only glitter every other ridge. I found a Q-tip was helpful for more precise glue application. Then used the sponge to press the glitter into the glue to make it last longer.

Let it dry at least an hour (I did it over night) then you can wipe away the excess glitter.

They're not Pinterest perfect but I was quite pleased with myself. I really loved the glitter stem!

How would you decorate your pumpkin?

  2. @heather ooo very smart! I'll have to remember that next year. I think I'll just paint them to avoid spilling glitter all over my kitchen floor lol
