Father's Day Gift Ideas

Since retiring my father bought himself an RV, a modern day Walter White folks... and has been traveling around the US visiting sights that I didn't even know existed. So this Father's Day a lot of his gifts are centered around his traveling. I don't find the typical Father's Day gifts listed on other sites helpful since many of them center around alcohol and my father doesn't drink. I usually go for his hobbies: golf, reading, sports and now RVing. Here are some ideas:

1. Sarcastic gifts. My Dad is highly sarcastic so we tend to get him gag gifts. One year I got him a punching bag in the shape of a referee while he watched his Giants games. This F-bomb paperweight is pretty classic and would be appreciated by my father.

2. What he really needs. I don't know about your Dad but both men (Dad & Bro, cut from the same cloth) are pretty stubborn and don't want to buy something new if their old one works just fine... but is disgusting as heck i.e. his toiletry bag. My mom requested one of us get him a new one because he wasn't going to do it until his broke. So that's what I got him this year. Sometimes the most practical gifts are the best.

3. Encourage his travel. Since my Dad has been RVing a lot, getting him a book or an atlas can grow his hobby. Last year I got him a gardening sign for his garden, which he hung proudly. Although the title of this book is pretty bleak "before you die" he's actually crossed several things off.

What are you getting your Dad this Father's Day?

  1. UGH I never know what to get my dad for Father's Day! He's the HARDEST person to shop for ever! I saw that Group on had a sale on Yankee tickets but of course it's while I'm gone. DAMN IT.

  3. Great list. I always really struggle with my dad - he's the only person in my family that doesn't have a pre existing list in their head! He does like to travel though, so that book looks good. And definitely still sticking to a personalised golf club.
