MMG: Goodbye June

Can't believe today is the last day of June - eek! Friday I took advantage of the gorgeous weather and ran some errands. Had to pick up Lupita's Vogue! Friday night was the premiere of Girl Meets World, the "sequel" to one of my beloved childhood shows Boy Meets World. It's on the Disney Channel so it's a typical Disney show (i.e. not totally palatable for anyone over 13). There were some callbacks to the original show but overall it's going to be hard to stomach lol. Think I'll just have to stream the original.

3 Ways to Wear a Baseball Tee

The Day Book Blog // Joanna Goddard // Style Within Reach

Earlier this season I talked about falling in love with baseball tees again. Mindy Kaling recently wore one during the finale of The Mindy Project and looked gorgeous! I think you can wear this casual tee in several way so I thought I'd show you three ways you can wear this trend for some outfit inspiration:

My Summer Playlist

Summer is officially here and that means new music! Artists tend to compete to be the "song of the summer" which benefits us music lovers since that means a whole slew of new tunes. Here's what on my summer playlist this year:

Would You Dare to Break Up With Your Makeup?

Images via
I love when celebs bare it all... by which I mean no makeup. Granted they're all beautiful creatures so it shouldn't be as big of a deal as it is. But I think it sends a great message to young girls. I've bared it all on the blog before. I always wish I held off wearing makeup longer. Whenever I admire someone's fabulous skin their response is the same "I don't wear makeup" and I'm like dammit! As soon as you start wearing makeup your skin is forever changed. Don't start too young! Now at age 28, I try to let my skin breathe as often as I can and often use my weekends for face masks.

MMG: Summer Weekends

Friday I met up with Laura to take advantage of the beautiful weather and unwind after a stressful week. We met up for our usual Blockheads and then headed to the movies to see Think Like A Man Too. It was alright. Not as good as the first movie. They tried to do a Bridesmaids/Hangover but it didn't quite work out.

3 Summer Trends I Won't Be Wearing

The weather has warmed up most places so that means it's time to switch up the wardrobe and wear summer's hottest fashions. I've often said on this blog that trends tend to be a gray area in fashion. I love them because they help us spruce up our wardrobes but also despise them because some people try to take them right off the runway (and they're not practical). You don't have to wear all of them! If you've found ways to wear these trends, then good on ya but these are ones that won't be joining my closet:

Guest Post: The Secret to Saving Money Shopping Online by StudentRate

This guest post was submitted by Leeyen of StudentRate.com, the #1 Student Discount Website helping students save money in college.

Like many other twenty-something’s, I’m definitely an online shopping enthusiast. We’re busy and always on the go, and definitely don’t have time to prowl the mall. Quickly browsing your email to glance over any sales that your favorite stores may be having is a daily ritual, and we definitely online window-shop more than we buy. However, when you just have to have something, there’s a shopping secret that you should know about. You can get cash back when you shop online at hundreds of stores, which is an additional discount on top of what you pay for, even on sale and clearance items. How does this work? Sign up for free at StudentRate.com where you can have access to discounts at Sephora, Forever21, Nordstrom, Urban Outfitters, Nasty Gal, and many more stores! StudentRate is geared towards students but works for everyone.

My June Birchbox

This month's Birchbox theme was travel - Away We Go. "Dust off your carry-on. It's the season for road-tripping, destination-hopping, and of course staycation-ing. That's why we're bringing you travel-ready samples..." It was pretty fitting that they partnered with JetBlue this month. Here's what I received:

MMG: Storms & Father's Day

Nicole leant me her umbrella // Face masks & streaming // Saddest photo of all time :(
Friday after feeling sick all week, I finally got a good night sleep and met up with my boo Nicole. Unfortunately, a vengeful thunderstorm decided to interrupt our evening and we were fleeing for cover. I was ill prepared in sandals and no umbrella. I always check the weather before leaving the house and nowhere was this mentioned... I hate you Weather.com. Spent my evening inside where I watched 50 Cent's new show on Starz, Power. It already got picked up for a second season after one episode aired so I was intrigued. I then tuned into to some hockey. Stayed up till 1am (which is late for me folks) to watch the New York Rangers lose in DOUBLE overtime. So heartbreaking. Congrats to Leeann and her LA Kings on their Stanley Cup win.

8 Lessons of #GIRLBOSS

#GIRLBOSS is being dubbed"Lean In for millennials" and I have to agree. I definitely related more to the advice of Sophia Amoruso than of Sheryl Sandberg. Her tone was like a mix of Tina Fey and Kelly Cutrone - straight shooter but with humor mixed in. For those who don't know, Ms. Amoruso is the CEO and Founder of Nasty Gal, a $100+ million ecommerce site loved by fashionistas everywhere. She went from freegan to CEO so her story is certainly interesting but I found her advice more relatable than other female empowerment books. It was a quick read, just two sittings for me! There are many lessons to learn from the book but here are 8 that I took away including - "I have three pieces of advice I want you to remember:

Popbasic: Paloma Collection

I was quite excited about this Popbasic collection as it included great casual basics: white tee, infinity scarf and a clutch. They also included a lip balm - hooray! I wore it pretty similarly to the Polyvore collection I created because I think all the pieces look great together.

MMG: Milestones

My Grandma turned 90 this week so this weekend we got together to celebrate. Friday was pretty chill. Celebrated National Doughnut Day at the Vegan Lunch Truck, which thankfully stops by my neighborhood on Fridays. Friday night plans got cancelled so I used it as an excuse to start watching the new season of Netflix's Orange is the New Black. I'm a little half way through and it's amazing! Finally getting away from Piper to explore the other awesome women of the cast. I love getting their back stories, so interesting.

My June Julep Maven Box

I wasn't interested in any of the colors in this month's Julep Maven box so I selected the Modern Beauty box. It only involved two items, one which I have tried before so there's only one item for me to review. Sorry. Here's what was included:

Review: Benefit's They're Real Push-Up Liner

Benefit's They're Real! Push-Up Liner is "the first fool-proof and budge-proof gel liner in a pen. A gorgeous way to open up eyes, this matte black gel formula won’t dry out, and its cutting-edge tip ensures a precise line every time." The AccuFlex™ tip is custom-angled to draw an easy line. Its flat, wide guard gently pushes lashes aside to get close to lash line. It's not available until June 27th but I had a chance to try and wanted to share my thoughts:

Father's Day Gift Ideas

Since retiring my father bought himself an RV, a modern day Walter White folks... and has been traveling around the US visiting sights that I didn't even know existed. So this Father's Day a lot of his gifts are centered around his traveling. I don't find the typical Father's Day gifts listed on other sites helpful since many of them center around alcohol and my father doesn't drink. I usually go for his hobbies: golf, reading, sports and now RVing. Here are some ideas:

MMG is Back!

A new month, a new set of possibilities! Hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend last week. This weekend was not that thrilling I'm sad to report. But good to get some R&R. Friday I spent my day at the DMV - so exciting. My California driver license expired and I figured it's about time I became an official New Yorker. I wish I could keep the pic though - no one does a driver's license photo like Cali!
