Don't Believe the Hype: Organic Edition

I have been trying to be more conscious about the products I use (i.e. ingredients and animal testing). Although it is super surprising how false labels are. This is basically a round up of the organic brands that have disappointed me:

LUSH - Thanks to Heather for reminding me my dissatisfaction with this brand. I've tried their bar shampoo and bath bombs. I think their products are overly fragranced (and so are their stores!). They have also gotten in trouble for their "organic" claims.

Burt's Bees - Tried their lotions, shampoo, cuticle creams and nothing worked on me. I like everything they stand for and studied their history in all my marketing classes but I just have not been successful with any of their products. And in WTF news, teens are using the lip balm to get high?

Yes to Carrots (Blueberries... Cucumbers...) - I've had the opportunity to sample some of their products in my beauty boxes but unfortunately none of them performed supremely well. Their makeup remover towlettes dry up super quickly.

Physician's Formula mascara - I really wanted to like this brand because there are not many drugstore organic beauty brands. However, my eyes are sensitive to mascara and this one was very irritating. I thought "organic" mascaras would be more gentle but apparently not.

Here's a round up of some of my favorite organic beauty brands.

What organic beauty products have disappointed you?

  3. I think it's all hype. I do prefer natural products, but not those that you have to buy in lovely little bottles. Those in my kitchen are the best for me! :)

  8. I've had really great experiences with both Burt's Bees and Yes To...; I LOVE Burt's Bees pre moistened towelettes (omg, my boyfriend loves them too...thief!), antibacterial spray is also something always in my bag-doesn't dry out my hands like purell or similar, a couple of their lip tints/glosses are some of my faves too. Not really sure what you tried, but I would give these a shot.

Yes to...I really love their shampoo and conditioner. I have eczema and so have like a flaky scalp situation that needs help not to be gross, and they have a great one that works well for me and doesn't have terribly scary chemicals like the alternatives. I also like the Yes to Carrots facial cleanser a lot.

I don't have experience w/ Lush or Physicians formula, but b/c wasn't really sure what you tried from Burt's or Yes to... thought I would give you some suggestions in case you want to give them another shot.

  9. @Jamillah For Burt's Bees I've tried their lotion, shampoo, conditioner, lip balm for Yes To... I've tried their towelettes, facial moisturizer and cleanser.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've found a few other organic options that work for me. I know some people love the brands but didn't do much for me :/
