Don't Believe the Hype: Lips Edition

I am a self professed lip product junkie. Since high school I've had this obsession with dry lips. At first I was slapping on Petroleum Jelly, which tastes awful and made your lips super shiny. Then I tried Chapstick which quickly made me breakout and definitely felt like it was making my lips more dry so I would use the product much more. After a long journey, I've finally found a beautiful home with Aquaphor. It never fails me. I do venture out to other lip products (you can find reviews on my blog) but here are the ones that I would skip:

My May Beauty Product Favorites (And Not So Favorite)

As a blogger, I receive TONS of products and can't necessarily review them all so I try to do a monthly round-up of products I've enjoyed and not enjoyed. You may have seen some of these products already but I think they're worth mentioning again. Hopefully you discover some new products to try. Let's start with the good...

My May #TheStyleBox

My May The Style Box seemed focused on pampering with a focus on spa & skincare. This month's box was valued at over $200. Here's what I received:

#FBFF: Overcoming Negativity

Image via Pinterest

I was really excited about this week's FBFF topic because as a little person I know all too well about negativity. The internet can be a scary place because people can mean for no reason. When I first started my blog I was hesitant to post pictures of myself. When I had posted pics on another site I was managing, the comments were not so nice. So when it came to my personal blog I avoided it for a long time. I gradually made real life friends through blogging and they were a great support system. With their encouragement I began posting.

Don't Believe the Hype: Cream Edition

This is a combination of under eye and night repair creams which all make a lot of promises. I will also confess I am only 28 years old so perhaps these creams are not quite what my skin needs. Like all of these posts - these are simply my opinions on products based on my experience (i.e. I recognize that I don't have the same skin needs as everyone). But let's continue...

My May Birchbox

This month's Birchbox was in partnership with Kate Spade Saturday. The packaging was adorable black & white with yellow tissue paper. "We're tossing out the rules and taking a playful approach to everything from our beauty routine to our weekend wear." Here's what I received:

MMG: Mother's Day Take 2

Friday I met up with Laura to check out the new Nutella bar at Eatly. I don't drink so typical bars aren't my scene BUT a nutella bar... I'm there! It smelled heavenly. There was a limited menu so I had a crepe. You could definitely make your own at home lol but it was about the experience.

Discover Independent Designers on 9th & Elm

Hi, I'm Kimberlee. I'm addicted to online shopping. I really think you're limiting yourself if you don't shop online. Not everyone can afford a brick & mortar store or house all their inventory at a store. As someone who enjoys supporting new designers I recently discovered 9th & Elm. You can shop jewelry, handbags, apparel and other accessories from handmade and independent designers. Prices are reasonable with the highest items being around $100. Here's what I recently snagged:

Mani of the Week: Water Color

I've been inspired by these water color manicures on Pinterest and Instagram lately. I thought the polishes in my Julep Maven box looked good together so I attempted it. I think it looks more like brush strokes but I like the look.

PEOPLE Magazine's VIP Box

When Klout told me I qualified to receive PEOPLE Magazine's World's Most Beautiful VIP gift box, I was ecstatic because I have a slight addiction to subscription boxes. It seems like everyone is getting into the game. However, I was expecting that a major magazine would have name brands in the box but there were only 2 and the rest were random. Here's what was inside:

Review: jane iredale's Starter Kit

Makeup that can be helpful for your skin? Impossible! jane iredale touts itself as the skincare makeup line because they use high quality ingredients including vitamins and antioxidants that can help improve your skin. I recently had the opportunity to try jane iredale's Starter Kit (retail value $55) which is a great way to get introduced to the line. It is available in 5 shades. I received Light, which matched my fair skin. The kit includes:

My May Julep Maven Box

Yes... this post is later than usual that is because this box was late. Julep claimed because of high demand for their new PliĆ© Wand™ but not sure that explains why Mavens had to wait two weeks past the usual ship date for their boxes. But let's get back to the box. I selected the Boho Glam box. Here's what was inside:

MMG: Last Week

Dawson feels my pain

Last week of finals. Last week of classes. Last week of school (basically). Sadly another boring post for me. Wasn't able to visit my mom for Mother's Day this weekend - bad daughter. I'm never going to live it down. But this week is my final week! This is also my last semester of classes, next semester is "Capstone," which is where you write a business plan basically so this is also essentially my last week of school. Can't believe how time flies! Scary that school is ending because that means I have to jump back into the job market again.

On another note, I'm excited to bring you this week's Featured Blogger...

MMG: Finals

This week starts the stressful week known as FINALS! First up is final projects so this weekend I spent every day working with my groups. So sadly that means I don't have much to report. But I'm happy to announce a new addition to Monday Morning Gossip - featured bloggers! Leeann and I wanted to show our appreciation for supporting the link up and put the spotlight on some of you. First up we have...

Mani of the Week: Zoya's Kylie

I participated in Zoya's Earth Day Polish Exchange. If you're not aware, it's where you can buy 6+ polishes for a discount if you mail in old nail polish bottles. Great way to clean out your nail polish drawer. One of the new polishes was Kylie2, which is described as red-orange coral. I also purchased their Armor top coat. A week later and my nails are still going strong! Rarely do I ever have a nail polish on my nails for a week but I wanted to test how long the top coat would last and I'm impressed. Might be my new favorite!

Don't Believe the Hype: Organic Edition

I have been trying to be more conscious about the products I use (i.e. ingredients and animal testing). Although it is super surprising how false labels are. This is basically a round up of the organic brands that have disappointed me:
