Don't Believe the Hype: Skincare Edition

For this week's 'Don't Believe the Hype' I decided to categorize all these products as "skincare" but it includes lotion, face wash and acne spot treatments. That's skincare right? Let me know which edition you'd like to see next!

Jergens® BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream $11.99 - After seeing all the beauty bloggers buzzing about this product I decided to shell out my dollars. I love Jergens Natural Glow™ moisturizers but this is not that. It claims to have 5 benefits with results in 5 days. After 5 days I only felt hydration. I say it's a glorified moisturizer. I'll stick to their Natural Glow where I can at least not look like casper the ghost when wearing shorts.

Tea tree oil. All products with tea tree oil have caused me to break out. I know a lot of people are a fan and it's supposedly all-natural. My skin is not a fan.

St. Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub $4.39 - For years I used this face scrub before realizing what damage I was doing to my skin. You should use a gentle exfoliator like Liz Earle's rather than an overly harsh scrub containing sand! Read my disdain here.

Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser $7.49 - After reading so many reviews and seeing it get so many awards I purchased this face wash. I love tropical smells but this absolutely does NOT smell like grapefruit. Read my original rant here.

Julep Bare Face Cleansing Oil $28 - A lot of beauty brands have come up with some kind of cleansing oil. Got to try Julep in their September box. I'd spend your money on DHC's Cleansing Oil. It is a must-have product for me.

Murad Acne Spot Fast Fix $16 - An acne spot treatment that I tried when I was first having major breakouts. They tell you that acne spot treatments should only be applied to the pimple because it dries out your skin, which I did. However, this product dried everywhere! I prefer Clean & Clear®'s Advantage® Acne Spot Treatment, which is more affordable.

April is National Stress Awareness Month so take some tips from The Luxury Spot!

  1. my mom SWEARS by tree oil. I just can't get past the smell of it. You know whats funny everyone loves LUSH and swears by it but I tried it once and it wasn't like OMG this is the best product ever! I liked the way it smelt but it didn't live up to the hype for me. I do however LOVE PurMinerals Dirty Dirty Mud Mask.

  2. I love the Jergens Glow, too. I use it all the time because it dries so fast. And it's so funny, I love that Neutrogena cleanser but I agree with you on the smell...not quite there with the grapefruit!
