Review: Julep Cuticle Pusher

Julep recently launched their Cuticle Pusher, which us mavens got a chance to try before it was available (currently sold out!). I'm obsessed with maintaining cuticles and enjoyed their Cuticle Softener, which is supposed to accompany this tool. It costs $14 and is made of stainless steel coated in ultra-durable, bacteria-resistant Teflon. It features an ergonomic grip for precise control.

#DatingGirl: Do We Have to Leave the City to Find Love?

Today on 'Dating Girl' I'm discussing a topic that is near and dear to me. I love my city of New York but it is a tough dating scene (arguably the worst). Patti Stanger said during a recent Match.com event something that a lot of people have said to me "you gotta leave the city." I beg to differ. What say you?

It's All About The Pony This Spring

Original image via

I have to admit that I'm over the braid trend. Partly because I'm not very skilled in the French braid area but also it's been so over done. Thankfully there were some refreshing hair trends on the runways that I can look forward to this Spring. They are modern updates to the classic ponytail. They remind me a lot of styles I did when I was young because I wanted to make my ponytail less boring. Add more rubber bands! Celebs like Heidi Klum at the Emmy Awards or Nicole Kidman in Cannes have done fresh takes. Here are some other inspiration styles:

MMG: Spring is Around the Corner

Hooray! Finally some warm weather here in New York. I'm so ready for spring. Also, can't believe that February is almost over. Thankfully that means spring is around the corner but also means that time is flying way too fast. Friday night I stayed up late to watch Justin Timberlake on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Of course it was totally worth it. They did History of Rap: Part 5. They honestly could keep going... it just keeps getting better and better. Watch it so you can enjoy some of the benefits of laughter. The rest of my weekend was dedicated to reading, reading, reading and then some more lol. This semester is in full swing!

For their Fall 2014 runway show, Timo Weiland collaborated with Zoya to create a mini collection which attendees of the show received. Inside were 3 colors: Sam (dark burgundy), Cynthia (a smoky teal) and Taylor (cream). I'm currently wearing Sam on my nails:

Gap's Lived In Collection for Spring 2014

I'm excited about Gap’s Spring 2014 collection (and Spring in general!) because it celebrates the concept of Lived In this Spring season, this collection features products that look and feel like you've owned them forever, in a unique way. Isn't that something we all want? Clothes that feel lived in without having to wear them for 10 years? To bring the idea of Lived In to life, Gap created a first-ever tactile print ad which features a fabric logo made from the cotton of a worn-in tee and will be running in the March issue of Vogue. Gap chose the worn-in tee that musician, Birdy, is wearing in the ad pictured above to capture the feel. Here are some pieces I'm loving:

KAUFMANFRANCO Fall/Winter 2014 Runway Show

Thanks to Laura of Blush & Beakers for covering for me!

I was fortunate to fill in for Kimberlee last minute when she couldn’t attend the KAUFMANFRANCO F/W 2014 Collection show due to school obligations. Normally, my fashion sense tends to lean more towards a lot of color: the brighter the better. After viewing the KAUFMANFRANCO collection I saw the beauty in a more muted color palette, where the focus was not on prints or colors in the collection but the structure and cut of the clothing.

MMG: Long Weekends

Happy President's Day! I'm happy because I don't have class today so I can avoid trudging through the snow. Long weekends with snow days were meant for Netflix streaming. I finally watched House of Cards since everyone was buzzing about Season 2 being released on Valentine's Day. I'm only a few episodes into Season 2 but looking forward to finish the rest today on my day off.

Backstage Beauty: Monique Lhuillier

To complement Monique Lhuillier’s graphic architectural, old world French Parisian couture and dark romantic influences, Master Stylist Bob Recine for Moroccanoil created soft, vertical rolled chignons that were sophisticated yet casual. His innovative take on the chignon created “a loose, gamine-like contrast to the elegant, well-done clothes” and each was designed “to follow the natural geometry of each model’s jawline” for a hairdo of confidence.

Timo Weiland Fall 2014 Runway Show

Thanks to Alex of Delayed Missives for covering for me!

Timo Weiland Fall 2014 is a collection for the ultimate downtown cool girl. The clothes has a slight schoolgirl vibe and a modern energy that was complemented by clean, natural faces and shiny hair. Models mostly wore flat shoes and tights, a practical combination for the current weather conditions.

My Valentine's Day Mani

Today is Valentine's Day and I thought to honor the day of love I'd wear Julep's Love glitter polish, which was a bonus polish for mavens this month. I paired it with the Ruby Wing nail polish from my Birchbox.

My February Birchbox

Review: Julep Party's Over Glitter Nail Polish Removal Kit

In my Julep box this month I added on their Party's Over Glitter Nail Polish Removal Kit (retail $28) because we all struggle with removing glitter nail polish. It looks so pretty but the novelty quickly wears off when trying to scrap it off your nail. I wanted to see if Julep's solution was the answer all of us nail polish addicts have been hoping for.

My February POPSUGAR Must Have Box

This month's POPSUGAR Must Have box was not only about Valentine's Day but also gearing up for Spring. "It's after the holiday rush but before all of Spring's activities, making it the perfect opportunity to sit back and treat yourself." Here's what I received:

MMG: NYFW Is In Full Swing

My plan to enjoy New York Fashion Week this weekend was quickly crushed by the cold I was fighting off all week. Friday I woke up just feeling run down so I skipped my shows so I could rest for class that night. Saturday morning I did make it to one show - Ruffian. Unfortunately, shortly after I felt the cold taking over so I went home to rest and ended up sleeping the day away and missing the rest of my events. Womp womp. Hopefully I can enjoy the rest of the shows this week. In honor of NYFW returning, The Luxury Spot rounded up the most ridiculous accessories.

Ruffian Fall 2014 Runway Show

Brian and Claude were inspired by "monastic opulence, tailored volume, and sober religious silhouettes - with lavish sumptuousness." 14th century monks and monarchs seem like an interesting inspiration. It was a departure for the duo who are always darlings at Fashion Week. I know I'm always wanting to see what they bring but I have to say I didn't see much in the collection that I'd want to wear. The show was titled 'Rapture' and the models began to talk out to the Blondie song although the music quickly turned into something else.

Movie Review: Mitt

Image via

Netflix released a highly anticipated original documentary about Mitt Romney, Mitt. The description says: "Whatever side you're on, see another side. Following his bid to win the U.S. presidency, most Americans believed they knew Mitt Romney. With unprecedented access, this documentary tracks Romney from 2006 and his first effort to win the Republican nomination, through the 2012 elections, revealing the man behind the sound bites in an authentic view the public rarely glimpsed during the media frenzy of a national campaign."

Presenting... 'Dating Girl'

I have some exciting news to announce! I will be writing a weekly feature every Wednesday on MidtownGirl.com about my dating journey in New York City. Amy and I formed a blogger friendship because she was open and honest with her dating experience on her blog. Now she's about to get married and I'm still single lol so she has passed the torch onto me. It will be called "Dating Girl." Check out my first post about figuring out whether or not I'm ready to start dating!

My February Julep Maven Box

This month's Julep collection was all about the drama and featured a new beauty product. Each box featured the "Love" nail polish as a gift from Julep and for being their Valentine this month. I selected the Boho Glam box and here's what was inside:

MMG: All Eyes on New York

ESB honoring the Seahawks // Bro & I // Russell!

All eyes were on my beloved city this weekend because we were hosting the Super Bowl (well Jersey really was). I was probably the only New Yorker excited that the Super Bowl was going to be played here because I like when all eyes are on New York. I love this city and I love when we get to shine! However, I could have done without the hooligans that came along with the Super Bowl. Since my Giants weren't in the game I was indifferent about who won. However, was NOT expecting a shut out. Big congrats to the Seattle Seahawks! Poor Peyton Manning.
