My Super Bowl Mani

This weekend is the Super Bowl here in NYC and I'm pretty excited! My Giants didn't make it so I'm happy for either team who wins. I just hope it's a good game (which it should be). I always like to get in a festive mood with my nails so I thought the perfect Super Bowl Sunday mani would be footballs on my nails. I love this nail art because it was super easy. I contemplated doing the colors of each team but that would've been complicated. This works for me as someone who doesn't have their team in the big game.

My January GLOSSYBOXwas all about having the best skincare and makeup to the start the year off right. "After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, slow down and relax with an invigorating body wash. Try a new method of applying makeup and skincare..." Here's what I received:

My #RedCarpetGlam Look

Somehow my invite to award season got lost in the mail. I'll forgive the Academy. However, that isn't stopping me from creating a red carpet ready look. I mentioned how I'm loving side parts and berry lips and that's pretty much all I've been wearing these days. I used P&G beauty products to help achieve a winning, camera-ready red carpet look featuring those two favorite trends of mine. Here's what I used:

MMG: Back to School

After a long, enjoyable vacation... today is officially the first of day classes for me. Hello Spring Semester! So this weekend was my last weekend of relaxation for the next few months and I took full advantage.

Best & Worst Dressed at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards

Tonight was the Grammys, which honors the music industry and is usually a fun red carpet for celebrities because you can turn it out. But this year was a pretty underwhelming red carpet. There were a lot of faux hawk 'dos on the ladies and the gentlemen looked sharp in navy suits. Here are my picks for best and worst dressed on the carpet (there were slim pickings):

Review: DHC CoQ10 Washing Cream & Quick Gel Brightening Moisture

Fun Fact: After age 30, our skin’s natural levels of free radical–fighting coenzyme Q10 begin to dissipate. Oohh getting old. While I'm only 28, I am definitely interested in find the perfect anti-aging routine sooner rather than later. Most beauty routines contain 5 or more steps (mine is pretty close to that right now) but with DHC's CoQ10 Washing Cream & Quick Gel Brightening Moisture you can simplify to just 2 super quick steps. Here are my thoughts on the products:

My Favorite Pre-Fall Collections

The pre-fall collections are out and I'm swooning. Fall is definitely my favorite fashion season. Some trends I noticed were: blanket coats, dropped waists, gaucho pants, wellie-style thigh high boots, fur, menswear and leather. Here are my thoughts on my favorite collections thus far:

Chloe - I'm loving the dramatic coats and unique hemlines. Not particularly a fan of the chunky shoes or wellie styled boots (not pictured) but the hair and makeup were fresh and something I can definitely wear.

Movie Review: Her

Image via

We've all grown way too attached to our technology. Don't believe me? Try not using your cell phone for 24 hours. Spike Jonze has captured our imaginations once again with Her. A sort of love story/social commentary. The basic premise is that it's set in the near future where there are all of these technological advances including an Operating System (OS) that is developed to emulate human thought/feeling/emotions. People in the future become too reliant on technology that they don't even write their own love letters anymore. Joaquin Phoenix's character, Theodore Twombly, writes them for people. There are still newspapers and printed books in the future, which I'd like to see! No one had an iPad.

MMG: Happy MLK Day!

Image via Pinterest

Today is MLK Day so I think it's only right we take a moment during MMG today to remember this great man. It was also interesting timing on SNL to feature it's first black female cast member in 7 years - Sasheer Zamata - and two black female writers this weekend. Drake hosted and I think he did a great job. It was one of the best shows this season (which isn't saying much). I loved the Hip Hop Classics sketch because there was so much 90s nostalgia, I couldn't take it!

My January POPSUGAR Must Have Box

This month's POPSUGAR Must Have box was all about keeping your resolutions in 2014. "...you'll find one-of-a-kind products like designer beauty accessories and tech gear that'll change up your routine for the better." POPSUGAR continues to be my favorite subscription box. Here's what I received:

Mani of the Week: Plaid Nails

Plaid is a big fall trend. I can't bring myself to buy anything plaid (blame Catholic school) so I decided to try it on my nails. Have you started creating a nail art look and quickly realized that this is going to be the bane of your existence? All my DIY nail artists know what I'm talking about. Well this manicure is that for me. I tried to follow this tutorial thinking it looked easy enough but soon realized that was not the case. So no matter if people tell me they like it, I can't be thrilled because of the frustration lol.

My January Birchbox

This month's Birchbox theme is Go Time in honor of the New Year. "Forget giving things up - in 2014, we're taking on more: more things to try, to conquer, to integrate into our lives. New products - in the form of this month's samples - are just the beginning." Here's what I received:

Best & Worst Dressed at the 71st Annual Golden Globes

Tonight was the Golden Globes hosted once again by the fabulous Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. There was a lot of sleek, simple hairstyles on the red carpet which I found refreshing. Take out the hair extensions ladies! Here are my picks for best and worst dressed along with trends I spotted on the red carpet:

Review: Suave® Natural Infusion Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner With Macadamia Oil

I believe when it comes to your beauty routine, some products are worth the investment. But that doesn't mean you can't find great products at the drugstore. Case in point, Suave. Awhile ago I blind tested their Moroccan Oil line and was really impressed by it. Even more impressed that it was Suave! They've recently launched several natural infusion lines including Natural Infusion Macadamia Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner (both under $3!). I love the natural infusion collection because it contains no parabens or dyes and works as well as salon brands.

My January Julep Maven Box

This month's Julep collection was titled Boudoir. None of the colors stood out to me so I opted for the Modern Beauty box. It featured 3 products, two which I have already tried. I'm already a huge fan of the drying drops and just picked up some at their NYC Pop-Up but I can never get enough. I also have tried the cuticle oil. Not worth the $18 and it's a much smaller amount of product, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

MMG Is Back!

View from the hotel // Uncle John helping the instructor with the boys // Jacob getting the hang of it // Zach making snow angels

Happy 2014 everybody! Excited to have MMG back this week. I guess I have 2 weeks to catch you up on. For Christmas, I went to California where my family decided to take a trip to Mammoth to have a white Christmas (although there ended up being not much snow). My nephews had their first ski lesson. The oldest, Jacob (5) was quite good and enjoyed himself while Zach (2) lost interest and had other plans. Can ya blame him? I'm sure once he's older, he'll enjoy it more.

My New Year's Eve Mani

Although I wasn't going out for New Year's Eve, I still wanted to be festive on my nails. I opted for Essie's Ignite the Night from their new Encrusted collection (which was a gift from Laura) and paired it with Color Club's On The Rocks from my November Birchbox.

Happy New Year!

Image via

Wishing you all a Happy New Year! Here's to hoping 2014 will be a great year. 2013 was a great year for me - finished my first year of grad school, had a great internship, celebrated 28 years on this Earth, covered my 6th consecutive New York Fashion Week season (although that might be coming to an end) and had great readers who continued to support the blog! Thank you for reading in 2013 and hopefully you'll continue on this journey with me in 2014.

In case you missed it, here are great posts about ringing in the New Year from some of my fellow blogging buddies:
