October Beauty Product Favorites & Not So Favorite

October marks the beginning of fall: changing of the leaves, pumpkins, sweaters! And for those who live in a place that has seasons then it should signal a change in your beauty routine. As the temperatures drop, your skin's ability to hold moisture also decreases so you should switch to heavier creams and serums. Let's start with the good...

October Beauty Product Favorites

hello toothpaste $5.99 - I had the chance to review some products from the hello collection and they're all fabulous but the stand out star for me was the toothpaste. I have sensitive teeth so I've been a dedicated user of Sensodyne for years. However, when I switched over to hello to test, I didn't notice any sensitivity (which I was so worried about). I've been using it al month and my teeth are just as healthy if not more so with hello than with Sensodyne for a fraction of the cost.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser (starting at $15.75) - I received the starter kit, which included the cleanser and a muslin cloth in this month's Birchbox. It is a plant-based cleanser that has a two-phase action: Phase one is cleansing. Removing makeup and dirt from your face. Phase two polishing. Using the pure muslin cloth, it gently removes dead skin cells and helps reveal clean, soft and radiant skin. I've been enjoying this cleanser. Love how my skin feels afterwards.

DHC Body Cleansing Sheets (20 sheets $6) - Featured in their Power in Pink kit, these "multi-purpose shower-in-a-sheet wipes cleanse with a revitalizing solution of cucumber and shiso (a member of the mint family), sweeping away perspiration, dirt, and grime and leaving behind wonderful botanicals to cleanse and moisturize your skin. With no alcohol or added fragrances or colors, they’re even gentle enough to use as baby wipes." I use these wipes for so many things and love how refreshed my skin feels after using.

The Wet Brush $14 - I received the pink version benefitting Breast Cancer Awareness Month in my October POPSUGAR Must Have Box. The magic of the Wet Brush™ is in the specially formulated IntelliFlex™ bristles, which eliminate tugging, tearing, pulling and ripping. No split ends, no hair loss. I like the brush both for wet and dry hair. The bristles are super soft so I never feel like it's pulling my hair.
October Beauty Not So Favorites
Julep Mask Noir $32 - Julep's beauty products have hit or miss. I enjoyed their Beach Tonic Body Oil. But $32 for 2.5 oz (which you don't really get...) of product is a bit pricey in my opinion. The mask is really hard to apply since it cakes up. I like how my skin feels afterward but it's SO much effort and I feel like I get the same results with other products.

Julep's Cleopatra $14 - This was marketed as a "latex" polish and I sadly fell for the gimmick. It was definitely just a matte black polish. Nothing special.

tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes™ Statement Mascara $23 - I received this in my GLOSSYBOX this month and I had high hopes but was unfortunately let down. The brush has 2 bristles that you're supposed to twirl 180 degrees as you brush it through your lashes but it's not as easy as they make it sound. I also found that my lashes were drying out (more so than usual) by the end of the day. Womp womp.

What products did you enjoy using this month?

  1. A little embarrassed to say I haven't tried any of these products. But I'm in the market for a new mascara. The tarte mascara looks great! - Katy
