MMG: Recovery

Image via

The theme of this week's Monday Morning Gossip is recovery. All week I've been suffering from the annual "changes of season" head cold. It kicked my ass pretty good so by the end of the week I had no desire to do anything except catch up on sleep. I was supposed to go out and celebrate Heather's (aka Fashionista NY Girl) birthday but had no energy whatsoever. I'm feeling better now but not completely out of the woods.

Popbasic: Lost Collection

So excited to share with you the latest collection from Popbasic - Lost! If you don't know what Popbasic is... it is basically a service that creates micro collections (typically containing 3 items). I love what Madeline and her team do. The pieces are carefully planned to be on trend but also classic. They are high quality items that will help you build a stylish wardrobe. It's not exactly a monthly subscription but I recommend following them on Facebook to keep up to date when the next collection will be released. The last collection I purchased was called Sherwood and I still love wearing the pieces.

Nolcha Fashion Week Recap

*Thanks to Matilde New York for covering for me this season!

All designers at the Nolcha Fashion Week show that I attended, showed really nice styles, and some great clothes I definitely would like to wear myself. Claire Farwell London showed some very nice and feminine dresses, and she walked on the catwalk herself, which I think was very cool! Some other amazing dresses in bright colors were shown by Magdalena Adriane Toth.

My September POPSUGAR Must Have Box

This month's POPSUGAR Must Have box theme was DIY: "Whether that means starting a new project making something for your or a friend, beautifying your home, or tackling an endurance workout." This box was pretty girl and didn't feature a lot of items that were of my particular taste so I guess I'm not a DIY-er. I received a total of $125+ worth of products. Here's what I received:

Weekend Recap: Netflix & Shopping

I watched Ricky Gervais's new show on Netflix, Derek. It was a lot easier to get through than OITNB because there were only 7 episodes that were 24 minutes. If you don't know, it's the story of an old people's homes and focuses on the life of the staff. Derek is 'special' (no one will say, only that he's the kindest soul) and in a depressing place where people die every week he is a sweet, innocent soul that keeps everyone going. I wish he had someone else play the lead role because I just don't think he's a good actor. It's a good story to tell. You don't see stories like this very much on TV but his acting just really got in the way of me enjoying the show.

Novis Spring/Summer 2014 Presentation

*Thanks to Matilde New York for covering for me this season!

I really liked the fact that it was a presentation and not a show, since it made it possible for everyone to really look at the collection and the pieces. I really liked how the room was styled, all in white and the colored chairs between the models. I thought that looked cool and I think it matched the clothes in one way.

My 5 Favorite Manicures at #NYFW

Probably one of my favorite things to see at New York Fashion Week are the manicures (besides the clothes)! There wasn't a lot of nail art featured in the Spring 2014 shows. The big trend seems to be nude or clean white. Here were some of my favorite manicures that I'll be trying in Spring 2014:

Whether you're curling iron challenged or just don't want to bother with a typical curling like me then have no fear. Basically, it does all the curling for you! Venexiana Spring 2014 Runway Show

I've been covering Kati Stern's Venexiana runway shows for several seasons and I always enjoy it. I love how she mixes punk rock music with dramatic evening gowns. The color palette was very spring-like with pastels and floral prints. There were also some dresses in this holographic fabric that I've seen on several runways but reminds me of a bad '80s prom taffeta. Not completely sold on it yet. There were 74 looks, here are some of my favorites:

My First Juniper Box

If you read this blog often enough, you'll notice I love subscription box services. I'm also open to trying any of them. I personally think Juniper box is genius! Juniper is a monthly care package service thoughtfully put together and sent to you before your period starts. The package includes a customized pack of tampons, and gourmet treats for you to indulge. Yes, ladies. It's a natural occurrence we all suffer through every month. Juniper wants to make it a little bit less painful and embarrassing and a lot more indulgent. Read on if you're not bashful about this topic...

Christian Siriano S/S 2014 Runway Show

For his Spring 2014, Christian Siriano drew inspiration from his recent trip to Isla Mujeres, or “Island of Women,” located off Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The collection is a celebration of the female form as seen through a romantic lens to capture a refreshingly young vibe. The color palette and silhouettes of the collection evolved from the architecture and bright tropical colors of the residential buildings, the crafts and handmade textiles, and the Caribbean coast. Shoes were by Payless, which is awesome!

My September Birchbox

This month Birchbox celebrated their 3 year anniversary so the theme was "Heritage." "Every brand we work with, from the just-hatched to the iconic, has its own fascinating history." It featured crowd-sourced colors from RUFFIAN. I already reviewed their Classics collection not knowing they were going to be in our September boxes. Here's what I received:

7 Things I Did This Weekend

1. Tried to recover from the madness of Fashion Week. And it continues this week...

2. Had lunch with my parentals.

3. Enjoyed washing my new short hair which now takes 2 minutes rather than a half hour. Used a Lifebooker deal for a much needed haircut and cut shorter than I usually do because it was getting hard to maintain and I knew I wouldn't be getting another one for awhile.

4. Forgot to take pics like a bad blogger.

NFL & VOGUE: Fashion Meets Football Event

On Tuesday, I attended NFL & Vogue's Back to Football event at Grand Central Terminal with Nicole of It was a great kick-off (get it?) to New York Fashion Week and Super Bowl XLVIII will be hosted by New York in February. I'm a big sports fan especially football so this was a marriage made in heaven for me! Hosted by Phillip Bloch who gathered some of the best models in the industry along with celebrity friends to help model the latest NFL Shop gear. He also had the brilliant idea of mixing those pieces with high-end pieces from his designer friends.

My September Julep Maven Box

For my September Julep Maven box, I selected Modern Beauty because I was just excited about the new beauty products this month. The theme was "Cityscape" inspired by bright lights and big dreams. (Cue: Empire State of Mind). I have to say I was a little disappointed by the box. They made changes in packaging and there weren't any extras so it looked quite empty. Here's what I received:

7 Bloggers Dish: What They Don't Tell You About Fashion Week

Fashion Week is here! I've covered my fair share of shows so I'm what some may call a "veteran" and that means I've learned a few things. It can be a really fun week. I almost think it's like a "back to school" for the fashion industry because we're all gathered under one roof and it's the perfect time to catch up with folks you haven't seen since last season. However, there is also a lot of unpleasantries that you don't really know about until you've lived it. I asked some of my other fellow veterans their thoughts as well. Here's what they had to say:

Ladies, Your Hair Is Getting Older

I never really thought about the aging affects on my hair. I knew women with color treated hair had to give more maintenance to their locks but since I've never colored my hair I thought I had nothing to worry about. However, I was wrong. I've read several places that say that a woman's hair will grow finer and thinner once she turns 30 (why is it always 30?!). Also, women today are tormenting their hair more than ever before: keratin treatments, hot styling tools, hair dyes, and the list goes on. Most of the so-called "anti-aging" products on the market are to help repair those damages.

Brand Review: DermOrganic

DermOrganic believes in the power of Argan Oil where in Morocco the Argan tree is called green gold. DermOrganic's Argain Oil is cold pressed from the fruit of the tree, which is rich in omega-6, antioxidants and vitamin E that helps create a protective barrier between your hair and damaging forces affecting your hair (heat, sun and aging). Their products are vegan friendly, cruelty free, sulfate, paraben and propylene glycol free and contain no sodium chloride, salt, or artificial preservatives. Here are my thoughts on the products I tried:
