Items I Will Not Be Buying (Or Need to Stop)

Items I Need to Stop Buying

As I've gotten older I've noticed my style preferences have changed (see this post). I do love shopping and updating my wardrobe during the Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer seasons. However, I've begun to keep a mental note of items I should stop myself from buying or remind myself that I never wear and I thought I'd share that list with you. Here we go...

Will not: Any top that requires a strapless bra AND spaghetti straps. I don't like to show off my bra straps so I find myself wearing strapless bras when I wearing a top that has spaghetti straps. I wear a C cup so wearing a strapless bra all day is not fun for me. I like support for my girls. So I've slowly but surely stopped by any top that requires me to wear a strapless bra.

Will not: Crop tops. A trend that I will not be wearing is cropped tops. Don't get me wrong... they look cute and can be appropriate but I have no interest in exposing any midriff. I could layer it in the fall but let's admit it - that's a lot of effort for one shirt.

Need to stop: Black handbags AND satchels. 90% of my handbags are black. I'm becoming quite desperate to find a casual summer bag. It made me realize that I need to chill out with the black handbags. One type of handbag especially - satchels. At one point, owned 5 ALDO satchels but thankfully now I'm down to 1. Satchels are super cute but they're not very practical for a grad student lugging books around. They usually sit on your arm and that gets heavy. Future prediction: I will starve myself of black satchel bags so in the fall I'll have a binge where I buy too many again.

Will not: Clutches. Speaking of handbags... I don't know why I kept buying clutches. I never used them. They are very cute and I always envisioned carrying one for a chic night out. However, it never went that smoothly since "clutching" a purse all night is not my cup o' tea especially when they're not sturdy (how do you ladies do that?!). I much prefer having a strap.

Need to stop: Skinny jeans. Feel like I'm squeezed in. I have some extra weight in the midriff area that just feels super awkward in skinny jeans. I had a real repulsion to them this summer and have my style pendulum has swung in the complete opposite direction where I'm living in boyfriend jeans (or relaxed fit). I may need to update this list in a few months to say "Stop buying boyfriend jeans!"

Will not: Lip gloss. Another item I've completely flipped my views on. In high school and earlier years of college, I only wore lip gloss. I liked adding a light color to my lip while having that glossy look. However, in my late 20s I am completely put off by that look and only wear a tinted lip balm or lipsticks. It's a much more rich and matte look that I think is a little more grown up looking.

What items have you stopped purchasing?

  1. I like clutches WITH A STRAP. I got one recently, when I knew that I wanted to limit how much I wanted to carry (and how much crap my family was going to make me carry). I'm now in love. It can just hang off my wrist will I do my thing.

I think the reason I like I like this particular clutch is that it's rubbery:

It just stays where it's supposed to. I don't think I've accidentally dropped it once.

  2. @Katie Cunningham thanks for the suggestion but I hate wristlets too lol they just hang on your wrist all night. I also have issues with clutches that I can't fit everything I need like my cell phone.

  3. I can never give my lip gloss or my skinny jeans up (they just frame my shape the best) but I feel you on the clutches..although I keep saying I wont buy more, I haven't gotten there yet and the strap thing is so annoy noy...

  4. Late last year I realized that I have a black handbag problem and I had to stop buying them. I think I own 12 handbags/totes, and 9 of them are black. The problem is every time I invest in a nice bag I try to think about "the future" and black seems more time stable than hot pink. Oy.

  5. @FantabulouslyFrugal.com yeah I feel like black goes with everything so I tend to buy more of that thinking that it would go with lots of things. Turns out it doesn't lol. Definitely need a "summer/spring" bag in a light color and softer fabric than leather

  6. @Curvatude haha everyone has their own preferences. Just interesting to see how my tastes change over the years. Every time I buy a clutch it just sits in my closet. I try to bust it out and it just annoys me the whole night :/ #fashiongirlproblems

  11. Oh! I hate clutches too and never buy them anymore because I dont use them! I think I want to buy maybe one nice black one (maybe leather) just to have it but otherwise any clutch I buy I barely get one use out of.
