Memorial Day Weekend Recap

Scenes from my weekend

This weekend I headed to Jersey to hang with the family for Memorial Day weekend. The weather was fairly crappy at first so I didn't get to lounge by the pool as I had hoped. There were family games of Scrabble and watching the newly released episodes of Arrested Development on Netflix. I got through almost all of them (won't give any spoilers!).

Monday morning I did a little shopping with my mom before her cruise later this summer. I happened to pick up a few items for myself including this adorable polka dot blouse from Banana Republic and this peony pink stone ring from Ann Taylor. It got to be a really hot day so I know I'll be referring to The Luxury Spot's advice about sweat-proof makeup.
Then we picked up my grandma and headed to my grandpa's cemetery to honor him on Memorial Day. It was so sad to see 42,000 flags honoring all the fallen veterans - SO many lives lost. I miss my gramps everyday and writing this post about him was the hardest post I've ever written. He was an awesome man and there's definitely a huge hole in our family without him. He brought so much joy and laughter.

Then at night I went with my cousin to finally see The Great Gatsby. I haven't liked Baz Luhrmann's movies in the past (Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge) so I was a little skeptical. However, I thought the movie was beautiful and liked the mix of modern music (scored by Jay Z) with the 1920s style. Carey Mulligan's wardrobe was to die for!

Today I head back into the city because I start summer classes. Hip hip hooray.

What did you do this weekend?
