Book Club Friday: "The Semester" by Lorin Brewer

For the link-up today I wanted to share a book written by a fellow blogging buddy of mine that was just released! "The Semester" is now available on Amazon in paperback and kindle edition so be sure to pick it up. The synopsis is:

DIY Nail Art With Celebrity Manicurist Gina Edwards & Kiss

On Thursday I had the pleasure of attending a webinar with Celebrity Manicurist Gina Edwards for some DIY nail art with Kiss nail products. She shared her thoughts on the upcoming nail trends and showed us her favorite DIY nail art designs. She definitely thinks the almond shape or "stiletto" nails will be sticking around since they're a modern take on the rounded look. Also her tip for making your manicure last was say you paint your nails Monday, add another top coat layer on Wednesday.

My Itty Bitty Swap Goodies

Earlier this month I signed up for a beauty swap through the lovely ladies of Chaotic Goddess Swaps. I was partnered with Anni of Anni's Bubble. I was a little hesitant to sign up since last time I did one of these swaps I had a bad experience. Anni was super sweet and definitely put my mind at ease. The criteria was to send 5 beauty related items. We exchanged emails about what we liked. I told her I'm a nail polish addict and she definitely delivered! Here's what came in my package:

Beauty and Acting Runs in the Family

One of my favorite Hollywood families are Goldie Hawn and her daughter Kate Hudson (and Kurt, of course). Earlier this month I mentioned being a spokesperson for Almay all month long along with their Global Brand Ambassador, Kate Hudson. Is there a greater mother and daughter duo than Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn? They are both talented actresses, fierce women, have wonderful senses of humors and seem like all around fun, down-to-earth people.

Movie Review: "Behind the Candelabra"

Can we talk about the fabulousness that is Liberace? His personal life was just as dramatic as his presence on stage. HBO's original movie "Behind the Candelabra" showcases the love affair of a younger man, Scott Thornson (played by Matt Damon) and Liberace (played by Michael Douglas). The movie is said to be based on a book written by the real Scott Thornson, but I'm not sure how much is accurate. If it's all true then WOW what a messed up relationship they had.

Memorial Day Weekend Recap

Scenes from my weekend

This weekend I headed to Jersey to hang with the family for Memorial Day weekend. The weather was fairly crappy at first so I didn't get to lounge by the pool as I had hoped. There were family games of Scrabble and watching the newly released episodes of Arrested Development on Netflix. I got through almost all of them (won't give any spoilers!).

My Favorite Pieces From LOFT's Summer Collection

Wendy & I goofing around

Currently I'm in New Jersey for Memorial Day weekend. The weather has been quite warm and humid here on the East Coast which has me ready for summer clothes. Earlier in the week I mentioned how I had a chance to preview LOFT's summer collection. I loved everything they had on deck for June. There were a lot of tribal inspiration, prints, rompers/pantsuits, crochet and of course nautical. Here are some of my favorite pieces:

That Time I Hung Out With Drag Queens At Sephora

On Wednesday I ventured over to Times Square with Laura of Blush & Beakers to meet the new faces of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics - Vicky Vox, Willam and Detox. Is there anyone who knows makeup more than drag queens?! I think not. I'm an avid fan of "RuPaul's Drag Race" - those ladies are quite impressive and are super talented. So happy that OCC has made these 3 ladies the face of their brand.

Mani of the Week: China Glaze Tranzitions

Tranzitions are a new nail polish trend where the color changes once you applied a top coat. I purchased "Modify Me" because I liked the color combo the best. On the website they had French tips to show the difference between the colors which I liked so I attempted.

Before topcoat:

Fitness Magazine's Blogger Meet & Tweet Event Recap

I had such a wonderful last time at the Fitness Magazine's Meet 'n Tweet event that I was super excited to be invited back. I wore my Ellie leggings, Looksupply Zuni Top and my new running shoes from Zappos (the boys section). I had a great time hearing the speakers share their tips for healthy eating and living. I especially loved Rocco Dispirito talking about how you can eat Italian food and still lose weight. That's my kind of diet!

I know you want to know what was inside the goodie bag. I tried to capture all of them in the photo but here's a breakdown:

Beauty Travel Tips From Elizabeth Arden’s Global Makeup Artist Rebecca Restrepo + Review

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of attending Single Edition's Blog Meets Brand event held at the Delta T4X lounge and sponsored by Elizabeth Arden. We learned about their long and rich history. I especially admired Ms. Elizabeth Arden herself for being a businesswoman in the 1920s before women were even allowed to vote!
They were offering mini-makeovers and I wanted to treat myself. She did a smoky cat eye with a nude lip. Thanks for all the love on Instagram! Now I need to try to recreate the look...

My First Conscious Box

I signed up for a 3-month Vegan subscription to Conscious Box through Fab about a month ago and have been impatiently waiting for my first box to arrive. This tiny box arrived that weighed more than what it seemed like it could handle. Inside there were TONS of products. The most I've ever seen in a subscription box! I kind of wish there were as a card to keep track of all the items but since there were so many products I understand that it would be hard to summarize them all (*Update: They sent a follow up email listing all the items in the box). Here's what was inside:

Weekend Recap: All Good Things Must Come to An End

New haircut // Wendy eyeing up a romper // Wendy and I playing around at the LOFT event // My new LOFT boyfriend jeans & tote

Friday I got a much needed hair cut. I purchased a Groupon for ICON Salon for a haircut, Moroccan treatment, and a blowout. It's not the best cut in the world but it will hold me over for a few months. Then I went to the LOFT summer preview event with Wendy of Sass 'n Curlz. If you read my blog then you know what a big fan of LOFT I am. They have a great Petite section and always have fabulous sales. I walked away with a new pair of boyfriend jeans, which I have been living in this summer - hooray! Then Wendy and I hit up Shake Shack and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

What I've Been Reading + GIVEAWAY!

I've been bad about keeping you updated on my readings but most books I've read in the past few months have been for marketing class so nothing exciting to share. But I promise today's post will make up for it! I'm currently rereading (and almost finished) George Orwell's "1984." In my marketing class we often discuss this book so I felt like I needed to refresh my brain. Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg's book "Lean In" has been traveling to all the women in my family - first my mom read it, then my sister and now it's my turn! I can't wait to drive in since I've heard wonderful things. Buzzfeed recently featured an article "65 Books You Need To Read In Your 20s" and I've only read 2! But two are on my "to read" list. How many have you read?

Mani of the Week: Summer Neon Ombre

What better way to show off my mani than with my MyTee BAD studded phone case!

Recently I re-purchased my favorite summer neon color of all time - China Glaze's Flip Flop Fantasy! I also wanted to wear the other new polishes I swapped so I decided ombre was the best way to show off all the colors at once. Check out my ombre tutorial. Here are the polishes I used:

HowAboutWe's Book Launch of "Modern Dating: A Field Guide"

On Friday night I hosted some of my single friends at my apartment for the launch of online dating site's new book "Modern Dating: A Field Guide." I've been a member of HowAboutWe since it first launched and like it's refreshing take on modern dating. We munched on some snacks and sipped on some wine and divulged our online dating experiences.

My May Birchbox

This month's Birchbox is about "you" and keeping a beauty diary to track "the order in which you try your products, your daily routine, the techniques you've mastered." The card featured a fill in the black diary. It was a bit odd. Here's what I received inside my box:

Mother's Day Weekend Recap

This past weekend was Mother's Day so I headed down to Jersey to fulfill my daughter duties. We had quite the feast. She picked out her present so there was no surprise there but I like repurposing my beauty boxes for gifts. I think my wrapping skills are the ish. In another life I must have been a gift wrapper or shipping warehouse manager since I love wrapping boxes. And the card was from Love Jac which are all hand crafted in Brooklyn and the messages are typed with a typewriter (how cool?!).

Review: Cutex Advanced Revival Nail Polish Remover Pad

As a member of Poshly, a beauty contest site, I was recently given the opportunity to review Cutex's Advanced Revival Nail Polish Remover Pads. For a box of 10, it costs $3.99 (according to prices found online) and according to the packaging one pad should be enough for 10 nails. This is 10 uses for under $4.

Organic Beauty Brand: Dr. Woods

I'm always trying to "green my beauty routine" and I love trying new products. I was recently introduce to a local brand - Dr. Woods. Their slogan "All Things Good" describes the natural ingredients used in their products and the philosophy behind the brand. They produce all their products in the United States (upstate New York to be exact!) and use only the most natural, effective and sustainable ingredients they can find. Their products are not tested on animals, 100% vegan as well as gluten, paraben, phthalate, lauryl/laureth sulfate free. I had a chance to try their Garden Cucumber Raw Shea Butter Soap and Lavender Castile Soap and wanted to share my thoughts:

Q&A With Fashion Stylist Amia Serrano

I love to support local New York entrepreneurs! Whether they're starting a clothing website, an online magazine for men or creating designer handbags in the garment district. It takes a lot of bravery and strong will to create your own business and I've always admired it. Today I'm bringing you another feature about Amia Serrano, a fashion stylist. Recently, Amia worked with Recording Artist Mashonda to style the inaugural video of Mashonda's video series #LifeStyleHer for Here's my interview:

Hair Chalk Wasn't Meant For My Hair...

Hair chalk was a big trend last summer and it looks like it's sticking around this summer. I remember seeing Lauren Conrad's hair on her site The Beauty Department with gorgeous colors and thinking "I want to try that!" Unfortunately I haven't had the best luck with the products I've tried thus far.

5 Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother's Day is just a little over a week away and I'm sharing some gift ideas for you last minute gift givers. Whenever I ask my mom what she wants for any holiday, she always says how she doesn't need material things. Christmas "world peace"... Mother's Day "just to spend time with my children"... Easter "just to have my children call me"... you get the idea. But there are a few items that are good go-to's for Mother's Day if you don't have any ideas:

Get Smooth For Summer With Hair Removal By Nair

With summer around the corner, that means it’s time for bikinis, denim cut-offs and hitting the beach. And showing off more skin! One of my least favorite things to do in the summer is making sure I don't miss a spot on my legs while shaving and that awkward in between time when hair needs to grow in a bit before shaving or else you get razor burn. Nair to the rescue! Nair products provide professional results at home for staying smooth all summer long – at a fraction of what you’d pay at a salon for hot waxing.
