Welcoming Spring With Some Polka Dots & Neon

Polka dot hi/low blouse from B.P. Nordstrom (on sale for $10 - n/a) | LC for Lauren Conrad Blazer (n/a) | LOFT Distressed Boyfriend Jeans ($79 originally but scored for 40% off) | Girl's Cherokee® Ginnifer Flat via Target (on sale for $8!/color no longer available) | House of Harlow 1960 Chelsea Sunglasses (Christmas present!/color n/a) | Rolf Bleu Jewelry Neon Yellow Montana Bold Adjustable Bracelet via MYHABIT ($19)

Spring weather has finally arrived here in New York and last Friday while meeting up with fellow blogger Nicole of Style Me BAD, I decided to take outfit pics (shocking! I know...). I've been living in these LOFT boyfriend jeans because they're so comfortable. I've grown tired of squeezing my thighs into skinny jeans. It's not pleasant during the warmer temps so I've grown fond of the relaxed fit.

This Pretty Much Sums Up My Weekend...

Finals and final projects are due in 2 weeks and you can say that I feel a little stressed right now! I'm pretty much going to go MIA until school is over. Let the countdown begin!

Mani of the Week: Mod-Inspired Color Blocking

I've been seeing color blocked manicures on Pinterest and have been dying to try it. Jennie from Well Shut the Front Door did an excellent version. I also felt like it was very inspired by the current wardrobe of Megan on Mad Men. My nails on Monday started out with Julep's Lena so I decided to work around that color palette. Here's what I used:

Review: AVEENO®'s POSITIVELY RADIANT® Intensive Night Cream

Recently I had the opportunity to try AVEENO®'s POSITIVELY RADIANT® Intensive Night Cream. I'm a big fan of AVEENO's products since I have sensitive skin. I already use their AVEENO® POSITIVELY RADIANT® SKIN BRIGHTENING DAILY SCRUB, which is a gentle scrub that doesn't cause irritation and I'm currently using their AVEENO® DAILY MOISTURIZING LOTION. In my Influenster box I also received this adorable eye mask for a more restful beauty sleep, which I desperately need!

DIY: Clip-On Chain Necklace

As someone without pierced ears, I have tons of clip-on earrings. However, I am not always a fan of wearing them as you can lose them. I purchased a pair that are on the heavy side. I knew there had to be some creative way of wearing these and then I spotted Style of Sam's post about the many ways to wear a brooch and I got inspired! These clip-on earrings looked liked brooches so I would create a link between the two that I could clip onto my collar. Super easy!

My Favorite Eco-Friendly Beauty Products

Original image via

I usually round up my favorite beauty products of the month but in honor of Earth Day I thought I'd round up my favorite eco-friendly beauty products. I'm still learning about ingredients in my products and other important environmental factors. I even hosted a "Green Your Beauty Routine" where I learned so much. Here are some of the products I love:

Weekend Recap: Happy Earth Day!

On Friday I was still not feeling well. Something kicked my ass Thursday night and I was just cold and weak with a throbbing headache. I spent Friday pretty much curled up on the couch. In good news: My Sephora goodies arrived! I used the 15% off VIB code and it arrived within 3 days. Friday night I flipped on the TV to watch Fashion Star and it turned out Boston had caught the 2nd suspect in the bombings earlier in the week. The poor people of Boston had a hell of a week and it was great to see it finally come to a peaceful end with the suspect surrendering.

My April Birchbox

After waiting what seemed like forever, my April Birchbox arrived. This month they teamed up with Women's Health magazine who "put together a collection of their favorite products, which are all designed to help you fine-tune your lifestyle." Hence the theme: tiny tweaks, big results. Here's what I received:

Carey Mulligan VOGUE May 2013 Issue Styled By Grace Coddington

I am currently obsessing over Carey Mulligan's editorial shoot for VOGUE shot by Mario Testino and styled by the great Grace Coddington. I have been dying for the Great Gatsby movie to come out but sadly it was pushed back to May 10th. This shoot will just have to hold me over a little longer. Carey was styled in Dior Haute Couture, Miu Miu, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel, and McQueen. Is that not the recipe for a great fashion shoot? I thought I'd share the pics for some weekend inspiration:

Mani of the Week: Zoya's PixieDust

I was a little skeptical of Zoya's PixieDust collection at first because I thought it would be like OPI's sand, which I was not a fan of. However, seeing pictures around the web I began to fall in love. I'm part of a nail polish swapping group on Facebook and stalked everyone's Pinterest board for one of these polishes. After a lot of searching I was able to swap with a girl for London, which is described as "a fog gray with a sugared sparkle, in the exclusive Zoya PixieDust Matte Sparkle formula." So happy I was finally able to get my hands on one of these (and for a fraction of the cost). I love it!

Movie Review: The Central Park Five

Image via

I've been wanting to watch "The Central Park Five" (it's on my Netflix but not available yet) but PBS aired it Tuesday night so I decided to tune in. I'm glad I did. A disheartening story about our police departments. If you're unfamiliar with the story, here's a brief synopsis: "...five black and Latino teenagers from Harlem were wrongly convicted of raping a white woman in New York City’s Central Park in 1989. The film chronicles The Central Park Jogger case, for the first time from the perspective of these five teenagers whose lives were upended by this miscarriage of justice." Those five teenagers who were ranged from 14 to 16 years old were Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise.

Birchbox Home Limited Edition Box

On top of my usual Birchbox full of beauty samples, I decided to purchase their limited edition Birchbox Home box "From the Garden" (I know I'm crazy). This limited edition collection features an array of garden-inspired home and lifestyle products valued at over $89. I'm always looking to green my routine and just ordered a Conscious Box which is also home-related. It will be interesting to compare the two. My Birchbox arrived in a shoe box sized box with very cute polka dots. Here's what was inside:

Ted Baker Apcon Bow Tablet Case $70 //  Cole Haan Crosby Metallic Tablet Zip Around (on sale $48.95) // Samsung Galaxy Tablet BareBoo Bamboo Case via Etsy $89.99 // Calvin Klein soho leather tablet envelope case (on sale $49.99)

I've been searching for the perfect case cover for my new Samsung tablet. The dimensions are a little different than the iPad but I was able to find some stylish ones from Cole Haan, Calvin Klein and Ted Baker. Etsy also has a great selection like this bamboo one, which is awesome!

This Tax Day, Don't Forget the Singles

Original image via

The U.S. government regularly and routinely discriminates against fifty percent of our population: single people. I am joining a group of other single bloggers today - Tax Day - to bring awareness to the discrimination that singles face. Some of the most egregious examples of Marital Status Discrimination occur in Income Tax, IRAs, and Social Security laws, which all largely favor married people. A single person (not living as part of a couple) ALWAYS pays more in income taxes on the exact same taxable income as a married couple who file jointly.

Weekend Recap: April Showers...

...bring May flowers? Let's hope! Friday was a cold, rainy day here in NYC, which was a bummer after enjoying 80 degree temps earlier in the week. I decided to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day at the Melt Shop and apparently everyone else had the same idea. Luckily the line moved quickly and I was able to enjoy my grilled cheese and tater tots. Friday night I tuned into NBC's Fashion Star for buyer's choice night. I loved Sylvia's jumpsuit and Hunter's romper.

#LoveYourSmile Event With Romio and Luxury Dentistry

Father and son business!

On Wednesday afternoon I had the pleasure of attending the "Love Your Smile" event hosted by Romio at Luxury Dentistry on the Upper East Side. Romio is an upcoming startup where your neighbors and local experts recommend local businesses in your neighborhood. Luxury Dentistry offers a dentist experience unlike any other. They provide you with the leisure of a luxury spa while you receive your treatment. You’re pampered with a free paraffin hand wax massage, flavored lip moisturizers and a warm towelette afterwards to refresh yourself. The restrooms are equipped with Molton Brown products and Luxury Dentistry even employs an onsite beauty concierge. I enjoyed the massage chairs!

Here's what I learned:

Review: Dr. Hauschka Radiant You Skincare Set

I am always in the market to try new beauty products (hence why I subscribe to so many beauty boxes!). I really loved the mission of holistic beauty and health Dr. Hauschka's products provide. "Dr.Hauschka Skin Care preparations and facial treatment methods are specifically formulated to restore beauty by working with the skin to support its own natural processes of renewal." I had the opportunity to try the Radiant You skincare set which includes 4 products: Lavender Bath, Cleansing Cream, Facial Toner and Rejuvenating Mask.

My Favorite Things About My #IntelTablet

I feel like I'm the last one to get a tablet but Intel came to the rescue! I have been using it for the past few weeks and now I don't know how I lived without it. Oh yeah... with my chunky, heavy laptop. Here are my favorite things about my tablet:

My April POPSUGAR Must Have Box

This month's POPSUGAR Must Have box was about embracing spring and getting into the eco spirit with Earth Day also this month. I was slightly underwhelmed with this box. Can you see how empty it looks? Also, the most expensive thing was the perfume oil. Here's what I received in my box:

Weekend Recap: Time is Flying By

This is how I feel

Time feels like it's fast forwarding by and all I want to do is hit the pause button! Can't believe a week has already passed in April. Finals are at the end of the month, final presentations are in one month, and my 2 week summer vacation is in 6 weeks. Crazy! But finally there was some warm weather in New York after being in the 40s. Let's hope it sticks around this time.

Give Back to Goodwill This Earth Day!

About a week ago I visited the 79th Street Goodwill store to work on a secret project. I can now share that it was a video for their Earth Day promotion with Shaunya Hartley of VintageShaun.com. Only could the great folks at Goodwill get me to conquer my fear of doing a video (eek!). I've always been a huge admirer of Goodwill and things that they do. They give back so much to the community that's it more than just donating. Their mission: "From our inception, our goal has been to help improve the lives of the members of our communities. To achieve this, we’ve provided training, educational, and employment opportunities to the people we serve."

My April Julep Maven Box

This month's Julep Maven box was all about brights. I decided to stick with Class With a Twist which featured a pink and red nail polish. I love shocking pink nail polishes so what's another one? The bright polishes got me excited for warmer temps. Here's what I got in my box:

4 Perfumes I'm Loving Right Now

My friend Laura of Blush and Beakers has been educating me about perfumes... slowly. She's an expert. I just know what I like: light, floral, fruity scents. I usually go for what she refers to as "teen scents" like something from The Limited Too. I definitely needed to move into more mature womanly scents. The Luxury Spot recently featured an article about the psychology of perfume. I wonder what these fragrances say about me? These are currently my favorites and make for pretty great spring fragrances as well (although I wear them year round):

What I'd Wear to a Summer Music Festival

Lucky Brand scoop neck tee // Old Navy denim cutoff shorts // Keds polka dot shoes // Kirra drawstring bag // ASOS round frame sunglasses // Kitsch Roxy hair ties

Bonnaroo starts next week and it will kick off summer music festival season. Unfortunately, this year I am not going to be hitting up any music festivals but someday I will and when that day comes I'll be ready with an outfit! Here's what I'd wear:
