Google Reader is Shutting Down, What Now?

As you may or may not have heard, Google Reader is shutting down. What does this mean? Any blog you follow through Google like say Google Friend Connect will no longer work as of July 1st. However, I've seen Google slowly take away the Google Reader button already. As a blogger, this deeply affects me. I want to make it easy and convenient for my readers to be able to keep up with my blog. You mean a lot to me! Here are some places you can follow me that will hopefully keep things easy:

Mani of the Week: Easter Polka Dots

Easter is this Sunday and while I'm not going anywhere, I wanted to get festive. I like this mani because it's not so defined as "Easter" so I can wear it after the holiday without looking silly. I'm always seriously craving spring so why not bring some spring colors on my nails?! Last year I used more pastel colors but this time around I wanted more bright colors:

My March Beauty Product Favorites

Spring was supposed to officially kick off last week but Mother Nature doesn't want to give up winter. New York has had snow, rain, sleet, clouds, gray skies. Bring on the sunshine! One area that has felt some spring in it's step (see what I did there?) is my beauty routine. My skin usually makes it's transition into more lightweight products as the temperatures get warmer. Here are the products I loved using this month:

Bloggers Do It Better: Black & White Stripes

Image via

I'm obsessed with black and white stripes for spring and I'm sadly still on the hunt for an affordable pair of vertical striped jeans. The pic above of Solange Knowles in Vogue is my current computer desktop background and my inspiration for spring. So when Pretty Shiny Sparkly's Bloggers Do It Better challenge was black and white stripes, I had to participate! Too bad it couldn't look more like Solange's outfit but I tried.

Top 15 Break-Up Songs of the '90s

During a recent #datechat on Twitter, the topic was "best break up songs." Most of mine seemed to come from the '90s. Although I'm an '80s baby, I didn't feel heartbreak until the '90s. I began to search the interwebs for other great break up songs but none of the lists seemed to satisfy my '90s craving. So I decided to put my own list together! Before there was Adele, there were these gems. Here are my picks for the top 15 break-up songs of the '90s (in no particular order):

Exciting News to Announce!

I'm excited to finally be able to share this amazing news with you all. Awhile back, I was invited by a focus group to try a new hair line. We had no idea who the company was and were asked to give our honest opinions. I honestly loved the products and desperately wanted to know the brand so I could buy more. Turns out it was Suave! More specifically their Suave Moroccan Infusion line that Nicole Richie used at the Golden Globes. They loved my enthusiasm in the focus group and followed up to ask if they could quote me. I agreed because I stood by the comment. Now in April's issue of Glamour magazine there's a Suave ad with my name in it! Pretty awesome. Growing up, I always dreamed of being in a fashion magazine (particularly as the Fashion Editor) so it feels really amazing to see my name printed in a glossy fashion magazine.

Book Review: 'Twilight of the Elites' by Christopher Hayes

Image via

No... not that kind of Twilight. This week was spring break and I finished three books (yipee!). Two were marketing related but one was Christopher Hayes's Twilight of the Elites: America After Meritocracy that I've been dying to finish but unfortunately just haven't had much time for other reading. It has been described as an important reading for all Americans. Merriam-Webster defines meritocracy as:

Review: Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy

I've been wanting to try Revlon's new Nail Art duo brush for awhile now because it seems like a nail polish lover's dream: two nail polishes in one! I purchased one of their Moon Candy ones, which comes with a glitter nail polish to create a "3D cosmic effect." It costs around $8.99 depending on the store and location (Manhattan prices are always higher).

How to Trim Your Bangs At Home

*Disclaimer: I am not a professional hair stylist. This is simply what I do at home in between trips to the salon.

I was always afraid to cut my hair as I had deep fears I would seriously ruin it then have to wait for it to grow back in. However, having bangs means a lot of maintenance. Within a few short weeks they're covering my eyes and I don't always have time to run to the salon. So I've faced my fear and found an easy way to give them a quick trim.

10 Things I Learned After College

Gone are the days of sleeping in makeup, pulling all nighters, saying "I can catch up on sleep on the weekend!" Now that I'm in grad school, I notice I have different habits then I did in college. Some of these are embarrassing while some are more important lessons I'll be carrying on in my adulthood. The learning doesn't stop after college folks!

Weekend Recap: Spring Break!

I'm officially on spring break. Don't get too excited for me though because unlike in college, spring break in grad school is no vacation. This weekend I hunkered down since I have boat loads of reading to do and a take home midterm paper to write.

Happy Birthday to My Sister!

Sisterly love

In my family St. Patrick's Day is a special occasion not only because we're Irish but more importantly because it's my sister's birthday! She's surpassed 3-0 but there's no slowing her down. She's on the fast track with her career, has 2 adorable boys, a loving family and still looks hot in a bikini. Although I've moved to New York City and she's in southern California, we talk every day. I was worried that when she got married and had kids that we wouldn't have much to talk about because her life is far different than mine but that's not the case. She cracks me up. Enlightens me. Teaches me important lessons. And is still telling me to stick up for myself! There's nothing like the relationship you have with your sister and I'm lucky to have a super awesome one.

Drugstore Dupe: L'Oreal Magic Lumi Concealer vs YSL

I haven't done a drugstore dupe in a hot minute! I thought I'd share a recent new favorite find of mine: L'Oreal's Studio Secrets Professional Magic Lumi Highlighter. Prices I found online range from $8-$12. I think it's a great dupe for YSL's best seller TOUCHE ÉCLAT - Radiant Touch, which costs $40. I've always wanted to try YSL's Radiant Touch because it gets such great reviews and because I always have dark circles no matter how much sleep I get. But the price always deterred me. While I was browsing the beauty aisle during a recent shopping trip I spotted L'Oreal's product and have been wanting it to try it.

St. Patrick's Day Manicure

Blarney! One of my favorite holidays is just around the corner. St. Patty's Day! I love this day because I'm half Irish but even more so because it's my sister's birthday. So of course I had to get festive on my nails. I created some four leaf clovers on an accent nails while wearing the color of the year -- emerald. Here's what I used:

My March Birchbox

The theme of this month's Birchbox is March Madness. Yes, like basketball. I have a feeling some girls are not really going to understand it or like the theme. I personally (as a sports fan) love it! It's when the best of the best go head to head. They did their best to use sports jargon. "This box is filled with products that make the cut -- from up-and-coming rookies to veteran all-stars." Here's what I received in my box:

Movie Review: Girl Rising

Image via

Monday night after class I headed to Union Square for a screening of a movie called Girl Rising. For those who don't know, March is Women's History Month. The film was released on International Women's Day and I don't think that was an accident. The movie shares the stories of 9 girls from around the world from Nepal to Peru to Afghanistan. While their stories are full of sadness they are also filled with tremendous hope. The film lets the girls tell their story as recited by some famous voices: Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington, Freida Pinto, Salma Hayek, and Alicia Keys just to name a few.

Weekend Recap: Jersey or Bust

Thursday after class, I headed down to Jersey to visit the fam and get in some shopping. Friday morning woke up to a snow covered backyard. The fresh snow was so pretty but it was washed away the next day.

My March Julep Maven Box

For March, the general theme was pastels. For my Julep Maven box, I selected Boho Glam because I liked the colors the best AND wanted the hand lotion. I also decided to add another color because the collection this month was honestly full of great polishes. Here's what came in my box:

Event Recap: #ExecutivePresence With Ann Taylor and Marie Claire

Ann Taylor held an event for young professional women. I was unfortunately unable to attend thanks to class so Laura of Blush and Beakers shared her thoughts from the event. Enjoy!

As a young woman in her twenties in the working world it's important to know that first impressions are important and your appearance matters. To take it a step further for those of us with plans on climbing the corporate ladder, we don't jwant to just look nice, we want to have "executive presence." Last week Marie Claire and Ann Taylor held a great event in New York City with the same theme. Marie Claire's editors gave tips on professional dress. They also had professionals on hand to look over anyone's LinkedIn profile, photographers to take professional head shots, as well as makeup artists from Elizabeth Arden giving tips on professional makeup. Due to the crowds I was only able to get a LinkedIn Profile consultation. Here are the tips I received:

Quick Beauty Reviews: Smashbox, Clinique & mark.

I've been falling behind on reviewing all the products I have so I've decided to do a few quick reviews in one post. A little spring cleaning if you will. Hope you don't mind!

Monday Morning Gossip

This weekend I tried to set some time for myself to take a break from all the studying. Midterms are around the corner and suddenly the work load is 3x as much! I feel like I'm drowning  in pop quizzes, papers, reading assignments and group projects. I'll be looking forward to Spring "Break" on March 18th. Friday night I stayed in like a party pooper to study. But then Saturday afternoon I cashed in a Groupon deal with Alex from Delayed Missives. It was for brunch at The Hill with unlimited mimosas.  She ordered eggs and I ordered waffles with a side of tater tots. They gave us enough food for 4! But at least I got to take home some leftovers. We walked over to an event but it was kind of a bust so we just sat at a nearby Starbucks to warm up since it was snowing. Check out The Luxury Spot's delicious recipe for white chocolate macadamia nut pancakes - yum!

In my February GLOSSYBOX, I received a set of Nail Rock Nail Wraps so I thought I'd do a review. I've tried pretty much every nail sticker on the market including Sally Hansen and Essie.
