My First Popbasic Collection

Madeline Veenstra the co-founder of Wikifashion launched a social shopping site called Popbasic. I was one of the few they invited back in October and have anxiously been awaiting my first delivery. The premise of Popbasic is to create micro collections of 2-3 items based on classics and current trends that are emailed to you monthly. You are not locked into a monthly subscription so you can choose which micro collections you want to purchase and they'll cost between $50-100 (shipping included) depending on the items featured. This micro collection was $55 (and I got a $10 credit for being a beta user).

Came in a cute personalized pack with a handwritten note. Here's what I received:

I opted to buy this collection just to see the quality of the items. I wouldn't typically spend $55 for a blouse and 2 necklaces.

I wore the Yellow & Gold Twist necklace with this neon tank I wore to class this week. This is the necklace that fits most into my wardrobe. I liked it. It wasn't too heavy.

I decided to wear the Midsummer Night's Dream necklace with the Polka Dot blouse. The necklace wasn't particularly my taste but I loved the polka dot blouse! I've been trying to buy more button blouses as of lately so this is definitely something I'm happy to add to my wardrobe. However, I found the sizing pretty odd. It was really tight in the shoulder area but long in the arms. There was no sizing on it but perhaps it was too tight in the bust area so it pulled in the shoulders?

I also received a beauty item - Tatcha's Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers. They're are 100% abaca leaf and gold flake blotting papers suitable for all skin types. I received these in one of my POPSUGAR Must Have boxes but they got wet so I never got to try them. Looking forward to my second chance!

The necklaces were both bold, statement ones so I'd prefer maybe a simple, classic necklace that I could layer with the other necklace. I'll see what next month's items include but do like that I'm not locked into paying $50+ a month.

Would you sign up for a site like Popbasic?

  1. sounds awesome! the necklaces and the blouse look amazing on you :)

  2. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who had their shirt fit like that. It was very tight in the shoulders/chest area. I ordered my typical size and I can't even button the chest buttons and the arms are tight. I can however squeeze myself into it, so I can still wear it. Loving the micro collection on you!!

    1. Yeah it was a Small and usually I'm XS so it was definitely an odd size. She said on Twitter that they're working on making more regular US sizes available in the next collection. hehe I'm going to hold onto the blouse a little bit too since it's cute. Maybe put a cardigan over it?

      Thanks for stopping by!
