#MySmarterCommerce Spotted Around NYC

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me feature a few #MySmarterCommerce initiatives in New York City. I've been having fun sharing my thoughts and highlighting certain brand's who are doing a great job. The latest I've spotted are from H&M and POPSUGAR.

My February Beauty Product Favorites

Thought I'd share the beauty products that I've been loving from eyebrows to toes this month!

Grand Central Beauty S.M.A.R.T. Skin Perfecting™ Polisher $38 - If you read my blog often you know what a fan of Grand Central Beauty I am. Their S.M.A.R.T Skin Perfecting mask is a must-have for anyone. Now they've recently launched a new product, a skin polisher, that exfoliates, peels, and tones - all in one easy step. The gentle beads remind me of why I love Aveeno's Daily Scrub so much because it doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. Grand Central Beauty's Polisher rolls away dead skin, unclogs pores, rinses away dead skin cells and invigorates your skin's complexion. GCB has created another miracle product!

3 Trends Spotted at NYFW

One of my favorite things about fashion week is scoping out the upcoming trends. Some are a little out there and not necessarily translatable off the runway. However, I did spot a few trends that be easily incorporated into an everyday fashionista's wardrobe:

Monday Morning Gossip

I'm linking up with Leeann for more Monday Morning Gossip. Here's the latest gossip in my life:

1. Upper East Side is a totally different world. I used my Gilt City voucher to do yoga Friday morning at exhale mind body spa. The closest location was on the Upper East Side. I felt like I was transported to a suburban universe. Parents walking their kids to school, strollers everywhere. Overheard in the locker room "Omg, where have you been? Haven't seen you in forever..." and the other woman responds "London." Yuck.

Best & Worst Dressed at the 85th Annual Academy Awards

The Oscars are here! Tonight marked the 85th Annual Academy Awards hosted by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. White was a big trend on the red carpet which was refreshing but otherwise there were no big fashion risks that took my breath away. It was disappointing since it's the Academy Awards which is the time to pull out all the stops. Let's break down the red carpet arrivals:

Beauty Brand to Know: B. Kamins Laboratories

B.Kamins a system of skincare products designed to work in synergy to increase the longevity of skin cells for healthier, younger-looking skin. B.Kamins Nia-Stem K products are scientifically designed to initiate repair and reduce skin reactivity. Key ingredients are Niacin (Vitamin B3), plant stem cells from the heart leaf globe daisy (an alpine plant) and our very own hydrating Bio-Maple Compound, which is proprietary to the B.Kamins Brand and found in everyone of our products. The powerful treatment system for all ages boosts cell metabolism to fight fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, dark spots, and redness.

I had a chance to sample some products from their line. Here are my thoughts:

Maidenform Makes Shapewear Sexy

When I think of shapewear, I think squeezing myself into a medical looking bandage. Sitting uncomfortably feeling like a sausage. I never understood why women would torture themselves to be so uncomfortable to maybe fit in a dress better. But shapewear has come a long way. Thanks to Klout, I received 2 shapewear pieces from Maidenform that showed me that shapewear can be sexy.

My 5 Favorite Nail Art Designs From #NYFW

I did this post in September and thought I'd do it again for Fall/Winter 2013 shows that just happened last week. I spy a lot of DIY-inspiration!

Trend I'm Currently Craving: Vertical Stripes

Currently Craving: Vertical Stripes
Striped skinny jeans $31 // Motel denim skinny jeans $74 // River Island striped jeans $54 // House Of Holland leather jeans $215 // AX Paris denim skinny jeans $23

Perhaps I'm still recovering from Marc Jacobs' Spring runway show but I find myself currently craving a pair of vertical striped pants. Stripes are a big trend for Spring 2013; however, rather than go with the typical nautical stripe on a shirt, I'm looking for a new direction (get it?). Not sure if they will look good on me or not but I can crave it, right?

NOLCHA Fashion Week Recap

Towards the end of every fashion week season, NOLCHA fashion week debuts independent designers from all around the world. I always enjoy NOLCHA because I get to see designers from around the globe that I otherwise wouldn't be exposed to. Now in it's sixth season, the day-long event featured 3 runway shows, and 13 designers. The designers who presented were based out of China, Sweden, The UK, Brazil, and from around the US.

Zang Toi A/W 2013 Runway Show

Thanks to Laura of Blush and Beakers for covering Zang Toi's runway show. Here's her thoughts:

A sense of romanticism filled the air as the lights dimmed and music began to play at Zang Toi’s Fall 2013 NYFW show. The imagery that served as inspiration for this collection is what Zang Toi calls “...Imperial Russia that re-imagines the historical opulent looks of the faberge egg and Peterhof Palace.” The show commenced with plush fabrics and furs and slowly evolved into beautiful evening gowns accented by more fur and beautiful beaded embroidery. Mr. Toi left no base uncovered for a modern woman’s wardrobe. From billowy cashmere to buttery soft leather coats, with fur lapels. Do I need to emphasize that there was no skimming on the fur whether it was lining a jacket, sleeve or neck? There were also trousers and the like as shorts with matching blazers and jackets in corduroy, glen plaid and pinstripes. Silk blouses with bows wrapping the models as gifts, and cashmere turtlenecks completed these luxurious winter looks. We also saw wool and tweed pencil skirts and suit jackets set apart by imperial embroidery and gold. Beautiful faberge egg printed dress and capes followed. Gowns flowed down the runway in deep emeralds, sapphire, and purple colors. There is no doubt that with this collection one was able to transport back into the time of Russian royalty.

What is #MySmarterCommerce?

As I mentioned, I'm participating in IBM's #MySmarterCommerce campaign with several other bloggers. It's an unique campaign that has never been done before. It puts the control in the hands of bloggers and simply asks us to share how tech/social media intertwines with our day-to-day lives. As bloggers, we are very active on social media and tech plays a huge role. Until March 11th, I'll be sharing my story with the hashtag #mysmartercommerce. I thought this video might help explain the campaign a little more so you're not like "What is Kim tweeting about?!" So tell me...

Monday Morning Gossip Link-Up

So excited to join Leeann from Join the Gossip on her new adventure - Monday Morning Gossip! It will be similar to my weekend recap posts where I can just talk about my weekend or the week ahead. So my weekends have been pretty boring but here's some highlights from this weekend:

Nanette Lepore F/W 2013 Runway Show

Thank you to Alex of Delayed Missives for covering runway show for me. Here's her thoughts:

Nanette Lepore F/W 2013 -- aptly titled Nanette on Mars -- featured many futuristic elements such as fabrics with high sheen and strong geometric shapes. I normally expect bright color and patterns from Nanette Lepore, but this season the color palette was quite dark and mostly done in olive green, blue, black and a dash of red. The most predominant pattern used was a watercolor-like space dye, again in dark colors. In contrast, holographic shoes and accessories (a full line of handbags will launch this fall) in bright blue and lime green accompanied most of the looks. I noticed that other than the classic pretty Nanette Lepore dresses, many of the signature shapes such as the skirt suit were missing. Maybe this is a sign of a new direction for the brand? I'm interested to see what develops over the next few seasons.

Sometimes It's Not Better to Ask What If....

Original Image Source: tumblr.com via Chaos on Pinterest

Once upon a time there was a boy from the warm island of Puerto Rico and a young girl from a small town in New Jersey. Only in the melting pot of Manhattan would their two paths cross. As the girl gazed upon his tall, dark figure he was everything she wanted and as he gazed upon her petite fair figure she was everything he wanted. The two were quickly enamored and instantly bonded. But the happy times would soon be interrupted by this thing called life.

Venexiana Fall 2013 Runway Show

Always a high glamour event, Venexiana did not disappoint this season. Kati Stern is known for her dramatic dresses and this season was no different. A rainbow of gem tones were sent own the runway in gorgeous crushed velvets, silk taffeta, sequins and lace. I loved the snake diamond details featured on the hips or shoulders of the models.

FBFF: Checking in On My New Year's Resolutions

YEY! FBFF is back and in a new way. Each month there's a general topic that we can write about. I thought that would be easier but apparently not for me (lol). After Fashion Week, I finally had some time to sit back and reflect. Katy challenged us to think about health and fitness this month asking "Did you make a fitness/health goal for the New Year? How is it going?" I try to avoid making major New Year's resolutions especially around fitness since it just sets you up for failure. Yes, we'd all love to shed some pounds but for many making that your resolution and not succeeding makes it even more depressing so I try to avoid that feeling and focus on small goals that are more easily achievable.

Mani of the Week: Bodyography's Brisbane

Please excuse the band-aid... got a paper cut

My Valentine's Day heart manicure was starting to chip so I wanted to change up my nails. I was feeling a bit flirty and feminine so I opted to wear Bodyography's "Brisbane," which is a rosy pink. I used Julep's Freedom Polymer Top Coat, which I love because it leaves my nails looking shiny. Unfortunately, I got this polish back in August in my i-Ella bag so it's starting to get thick and clumpy. I need a new bottle or find a similar color from another brand since I love it. Any recommendations?

My February POPSUGAR Must Have Box

Warning: My February POPSUGAR Must Have box gets a little scandalous this month. Well... not that scandalous (lol). February is the month of love so with that in mind POPSUGAR wanted us to "spoil yourself with luxurious" things. Here's what I received:

February 13, 2013

KAELEN Fall 2013 Presentation

For KAELEN's Fall 2013 collection, designer Kaelen Haworth infused the idea of a traditional school uniform with the stylings from '90s cult film,"The Craft." With the cool girls and their cliques in mind, Haworth elevated the uniform creating sophisticated, sporty silhouettes, softened through the use of peony printed organza fabrics resulting in cleaned-up grunge. I definitely got a "Craft" vibe from the collection with lots of leather, baggy clothes and layers. I could see some of the cool celebrities like Alexa Chung wearing this line. Here are my favorite looks:

Catherine Malandrino Fall/Winter 2013 Collection

On Sunday afternoon Catherine Malandrino presented her Fall/Winter 2013 collection at Center 548. It was titled "Le Normandie" as she was inspired by French Art Deco elegant line of Ruhlmann. The Fall 2013 collection was composed of clean and graphic shapes. It consisted of elongated silhouettes. Black velvet ribbon, wrapped the body to create the illusion of movement. Proportions were ample and comfortable with dropped shoulders, generous cape jackets and hooded trench coats while dresses were lean and followed the body’s curve. The color palette was black, a rich burgundy and hints of nude. There were graphic cut-outs and optical illusions. I'd describe it as: grunge meets high-fashion. There were only 3 dresses but none would be considered red carpet worthy. Definitely a more laid back collection. Here were my favorite looks:

Marissa Webb Fall/Winter 2013 Presentation

Bright and early on Saturday at Lincoln Center, Marissa Webb showed her Fall/Winter 2013 women's collection. This is only the second season for the label. For Fall 2013, Marissa was inspired by "iconic haberdashery details melded with modern chic." The collection emphasized fine tailoring while balancing femininity. She used rich fabrics including camel shearling and melange tweed were and a sateen for evening wear. The color palette consisted of neutral black and white mixed with flame red, navy, soft grey, and all shades of green (color of the year!). There was lots of layering. It was interesting to see bermuda shorts for fall/winter but she paired them with tights so it was believable. This collection is definitely my style which mixes feminine and masculine inspirations but also has a professional, polished look. Here are my favorite looks:

#MySmarterCommerce With IBM

I'm so thrilled to finally be able to tell you that I've partnered with IBM and a handful of other bloggers to share our #MySmarterCommerce stories with you. #MySmarterCommerce can mean something different to everyone and IBM wants each individual blogger to share their own unique story. I thought it was an amazing campaign idea for bloggers because it allows us to have our own voice but also utilizes what we do best - social media! With that said, for the next month you'll be seeing tweets, posts, etc. with the hashtag #MySmarterCommerce. I am not promoting a particular product/service, I'm just sharing how "commerce" (tech, social media, retail) play a role in my every day life. Just me and my tweets! Hopefully I don't bombard you with too many but feel free to chime in. In full disclosure, there is no compensation for this campaign; however, those who receive the most social interaction with their posts may get a chance to go to SXSW. Of course I'd love to go but I'm not looking at this as a competition to get to SXSW but as a chance to finally share my opinions with a highly-esteemed company like IBM. Hope you enjoy this journey with me!

Tadashi Shoji F/W 2013

Tadashi Shoji was inspired by a recent trip to Russia for his Fall 2013 collection. It was a mix of regal and peasant inspired dresses with velvets and metallic lace overlay. There were a lot of long sleeved, full covered dresses which was interesting. I'm starting to see some celebrities where this look on the red carpet so we'll see if the trend continues into the fall. Hair was messy and paired with a deep plum lip. I loved the lip color and side wispy ponytails. There were some hits and misses for me. Here are my favorite looks:

My February Birchbox

Taking a break from Fashion Week coverage to bring you this month's Birchbox goodies! The theme was Red Carpet Ready in honor of the upcoming Academy Awards (seems like everyone is creating an Oscar-themed box this month). "In honor of all the nominees and winners... we've put together an assortment of products worthy of the red carpet." Here's what I received:

Weekend Recap: Not Even a Blizzard Can Stop Fashion Week

View outside my window Saturday morning

As you may have heard, a big blizzard hit the East Coast so many Fashion Week attendees were in a panic. But fear not... Nemo didn't slow us down! It was a little messy Friday night but Saturday morning the snow was actually very pretty. I don't think we got more than a foot so it wasn't terrible.

NOVIS Women's Fall/Winter 2013 Presentation

On Thursday, Novis made its New York Fashion Week debut at Eyebeam studios. The collection is designed by Jordana Warmflash. Jordana launched NOVIS in 2012, which celebrates her whimsical and irreverent approach to elegance and is named after her grandmother. I loved the presentation as it had all the models in cube-like stage. A lot of the clothes were definitely my style with a modern take on sophistication but also a bit playful.

My Prabal Gurung For Target Haul

Image via

Did anyone else wake up super early to shop the Prabal Gurung for Target collection? I set my alarm but when browsing Twitter I noticed Target said that there wasn't going to much available online so I went back to sleep. When I woke up at a more reasonable hour there were still some items available online so I ordered them! Not sure what the means though that it wasn't completely sold out. But it was probably one of my favorite collections in a long time at Target. I talked about loving the "paint splatter" trend but maybe it was good not all of it was available online because it would hurt my wallet. I ended up with 3 items:

VAUTE A/W 2013 Presentation

Fashion week kicked off early with the first all vegan label to show during New York Fashion Week, VAUTE by Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart. It was held at Eyebeam studios which provided an industrial background to these organic clothes. It featured looks for both and women. The inspiration for the collection was sailor moon so there were bright colors, heart tights, and full skirts. I would also say there was a bit of hipster mixed in with slouchy beenies and high-waisted trousers. Leanne expande her ethical line to include winter accessories in her first ready-to-wear collection. All the clothes are produced in New York's Garment district.

Mani of the Week: Valentine's Day Hearts

Valentine's Day is around the corner and I thought I'd get in the spirit on my nails. I purchased Zoya's Kennedy during their 3 polishes for $10 promotion after seeing it on so many lovely nails. I knew it would be a great color for a Valentine's Day manicure.

Should You Call Yourself A Blogger? I Say Yes

This is a widely discussed topic and there is no right or wrong answer. However, during an event recently a woman told my friend she shouldn't call herself a blogger if she wanted to be taken seriously. I was pretty offended because I proudly call myself a blogger. It's on my resume, my LinkedIn profile, business cards, etc. Yes, bloggers used to be less respected and it seems like everyone these days has a blog. But I argue that bloggers are gaining more respect as we are sitting front row next to Anna Wintour at Fashion Week or some are doing major investigative journalism. We should own the word especially if we're professional so that the industry will respect us. So here's my two cents on titles:

Beauty Brand to Know: HEVIA MD SKIN SCIENCE

"Inspired by Nature. Perfected by Science" is the tag line of HEVIA MD SKIN SCIENCE. Cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Oscar Hevia tried to find a suitable skincare line for his clients but was unsuccessful. He decided he would create that line and after years of extensive research and testing, HEVIA MD SKIN SCIENCE™ was born. While searching for the perfect ingredients, he found it in his backyard in Florida, the Red Mangrove plant. The plant contains anti-flammatory and antiseptic properties which aid in soothing and healing the skin. With that plant and 10 other ingredients, Dr. Hevia created the patent-pending OH-XI Complex which increases cellular anti-aging protein. His line is all about non-surgical treatments we can use to help slow down the signs of aging.

My February Julep Maven Box

This month's Julep Maven box featured their newly launched Oxygen Nail Treatment. I decided to chose the "Classic With a Twist" box since I liked the colors the best. The box was all about the glamour and the upcoming Academy Awards with gold tinsel but also featured delicious Valentine's Day heart chocolates.

My Winter Survival GLOSSYBOX Curated by The Man Repeller

GLOSSYBOX teamed up with The Man Repeller to bring us her favorite winter beauty products. "We've put together a few tips to help you power through the chilly winter months and some helpful hints for the products inside your Winter Survival Kit." Now I personally don't care about The Man Repeller but there were some pretty cool products included this month and I liked the packaging.

My First Popbasic Collection

Madeline Veenstra the co-founder of Wikifashion launched a social shopping site called Popbasic. I was one of the few they invited back in October and have anxiously been awaiting my first delivery. The premise of Popbasic is to create micro collections of 2-3 items based on classics and current trends that are emailed to you monthly. You are not locked into a monthly subscription so you can choose which micro collections you want to purchase and they'll cost between $50-100 (shipping included) depending on the items featured. This micro collection was $55 (and I got a $10 credit for being a beta user).

Super Bowl Manicure: Go 49ers!

Super Bowl 47 is this Sunday and it will be the Baltimore Ravens versus the San Francisco 49ers. I'm cheering on the 49ers because I think they're the "underdogs" and I really dislike the Ravens. I decided to show some spirit on my finger tips. Here's the colors I used and how to get the look:
