Movie Review: Safety Not Guaranteed

While trying to avoid all the election coverage for a few hours on Tuesday, I finally watched one of my Netflix movies, Safety Not Guaranteed. It had a cast of many comedic actors I enjoy: Jake Johnson (Nick from New Girl), Aubrey Plaza (from Parks and Recreation), Mark Duplass (from The League) and Kristen Bell. The premise is that an egotistical magazine writer wants to write a story about a classified ad in the paper he saw. He drags along two interns to help him write the story, one of them is Aubrey.

The classified ad posted

Aubrey who has been a misfit all her life was inspired by the guy who placed the ad, Mark Duplass's character. He was full of passion and convictions while everyone else thought he was crazy. It was nice to see most of the actors outside of the characters as I know them although Aubrey still plays her highly sarcastic self but she did convince me with real emotions.

I really enjoyed this movie because it's not your typical romantic comedy and the ending will surprise you! Maybe it isn't so crazy to chase your dreams after all. I recommend it for those who like indie romantic movies, for those who are dreamers and if you ever were an outcast.

What movies have you watched lately?

  1. This looks like such a good film. I'm such a fan of indie movies. I saw Total Recall - the remake - on my flight back to London and I expected much better.

    1. Aw that's a bummer... I really did like this movie. It was unexpected!

  2. Aw, I really wanted to see this movie when I was working the Sundance Film Festival last year but never got around to it. I'll definitely have to check this out soon!
