Recap: #GreenYourBeauty Event

Your hosts for the afternoon

Yesterday I had the pleasure of hosting "How to Green Your Beauty Routine" with fellow beauty blogger Nicole of Lipstick and Luxury. Now I've confessed to not being able to fully green my beauty routine. However, I'm always on the look out for new products and information since I think it is important what you put on your face. This event was definitely an eye opener for me!

Miele Showroom at the The Architects & Designers Building definitely provided a great back drop to the event with it's sleek white and stainless kitchen appliances. They were very gracious hosts. Since it was early in the day we had brunch consisting of bagels, juice and organic coffee for our guests.

First up was Jolene Hart of BeautyisWellness.com who spoke about how the foods you eat affect your skin. AMAZING INFO! I tried my best to tweet it all out since it was so insightful. Here are some of her top tips:
  • Beige is bad! Stay away from beige colored foods and go for colorful. Sounds crazy but they actually enhance your skin.
  • Avoid juice cleanses. They are all sugar and no protein that put your body into hyper mode. Instead opt for a warm glass of lemon water every morning to help break down your body's digestion. (Need to start doing this!)
  • Don't eat unprocessed foods containing foreign chemicals. Typically if you can't pronounce it then your body can't break it down. It won't know where to store it and can lead to weight gain. With natural fats, your body knows how to break them down so they're not all bad.
  • Stress is bad! We all knew this. Did you know that stress eating tends to retain your stomach? (awful, I know!). Stress also greatly affects your skin. Try eating these stress-busting foods: dark chocolate, oranges, oatmeal, and chamomile tea.
  • If you can eat it, you can put it on your skin. Natural masks like raw honey or avocado are great for you skin and also delicious to eat.

Next was Leena from mySkin.com who talked about how the trend in the beauty industry is shifting to green. Companies are investing in corn based and biodegradable packaging. However, the biggest issue is aesthetics. Much of the beauty industry is selling a product that looks good in the package. Companies are figuring out how to make it look pretty in a bottle without producing so much waste.

The gift bags contained products from ARBONNE, Priti NYC, Qi LivingSénica Naturals, tarte cosmeticsZen Society Skincare and Zosimos Botanicals.

Arbonne including samples of their FC5 Hydrating Cleanser + Freshener, Nurturing Day Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Sunscreen, and Moisturizing Night Crème.

Priti NYC included a nail polish (this one is "Chelsea Star" a purple/blue color) and a Soy Nail Polish Remover wipe. These wipes are awesome! Just one wipe was able to remove all the nail polish on both hands. Not only are they 100% biodegradable but they also are infused with organic lemongrass essential oil so they hydrate your nails as you remove nail polish.

Sénica Naturals include a sample of their Bay Bay Sugar Scrub and their limited edition Koko Kwèm Soap Bar. The soap made the whole goodie bag smell delicious!

tarte include a full size sample of their LipSurgence Natural Lip Tint in Charmed, which is a very light and natural pink color.

Thank you to everyone who came out!

  6. I love that you are trying to green up your look. Just try getting one item as you need and before you know it you'll have a completely green routine. Priti is one of my fave fave nail polish brands. The color seems to last forever. Tarte lipsurgence also on my fave list. Such a great product!
