Guest Post: Makeup That Can Withstand the Heat by Blush and Beakers

Hello I Have A Degree In This! readers, I'm Laura of Blush and Beakers. Last time Kimberlee went on vacation, I posted four smart beauty travel tips. Since Kimberlee is headed out west to Southern California (where apparently it never rains) and I am headed to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks (where it averages 105+ degrees in the summer), I figured I’d share some hot weather beauty tips.

1. Wear an oil-free moisturizer with a broad range SPF of 30 or higher.

Your life depends on it! Please always wear SPF in all climates but especially where it is extremely hot which may indicate the sun’s rays are more concentrated.

2. Less is NOT more, but it will keep your pores from clogging.

When it’s hot less makeup is just that. Less. Why is it necessary? Well, for those of us who are acne prone, hot weather equals more sweating which when mixed with layers of makeup can create clogged pores and cause more breakouts. Stick to a light concealer or tinted moisturizer - preferably a matte formulation because you’ll already be shimmering in the heat - something like Touche Eclat or Becca Cosmetics in only the most critical places and lightly set with a mineral powder. This way your skin will be slightly evened out without layers of makeup.

3. Blot! Blot! Blot!

I carry all types of oil absorbing sheets. From the classic blue Clean and Clear ones to the rice beauty papers from Japanese brand Tatcha, to the Boscia Lavender Blotting Linens (fancy huh?). Call them what you want, but their purpose is to soak up excess oil that accumulates on your face rather than wipe oil everywhere when trying to get it off.

  1. I never saw the need for blotting papers before my first year with a New York summer! Great advice to beat the heat and humidity beauty-wise x

    1. Oh man, I always have tissues on me to blot the sweat off of me. Then use blotting papers to tone down the shine!

We all have opinions... I want to hear yours!
