Review: Olay's Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo

*Warning: Close-ups of Kim's lip!

I have been intrigued by Olay's Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo kit for awhile and when I finally spotted it in the store, I decided to pick it up. I have fair skin and dark hair so even the lightest hair shows up. Very annoying! I don't like using hot wax because I had a friend who burned herself and I find it leaves my lip red for days. I use Nair's Face Wax Strips because you don't heat them up. However, it can be a pain warming them up in your hand by rubbing them together. So I was looking for something new!

The Olay kit says you get up to 12 uses and costs around $20. Nair's is around $8 and says 20 pieces; however, those include large and small sizes. Another benefit to Olay's was that there was a Skin Guarding Balm. The instructions were:

Skin Guarding Balm
applying Skin Guarding Balm

1) Lightly apply the Skin Guarding Balm across the area you wish to treat. Massage balm into your skin in a circular motion for approximately 20 seconds. This ensures there is a pre-treatment layer to keep the Hair Removal Cream from coming in direct contact with your skin.

2) Apply a small dab of the Hair Removal Cream to your fingertip and immediately smooth over the area you wish to be treated. Cover it completely with a thick layer. Do not rub in. Wash hands immediately after. Let the cream sit for 6-8 minutes. Do not exceed 10 minutes.

After 6-8 minutes, gently remove cream with a tissue or cotton ball. Rinse your skin thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat dry.

I had slight redness on my upper lip and that's perhaps I didn't rub the balm around enough. I felt no burning, itching or soreness afterwards. It wiped off nicely and my skin was super smooth. I did have to  tweeze a few hairs but that is typical. It says not to use around your eyebrow area but I used it on my unibrow and it worked quite nicely.

It has now been several days and my upper lip/eyebrow hair feel very smooth. I am very pleased with the results. Just wish the price wasn't so high!

Would I buy it again? Yes, but hopefully on sale or with a coupon.

Would you give this product a try?

  1. I wondered about it ever since I saw the commercial. I might have to try it. I use Sally Hansen strips that are similar to your Nars strips now. Maybe a coupon will come out soon...

  2. Personally I never trust on these brands for hair removal as using these products can cause pigmentation and skin patches. For hair removal I always prefer to use laser hair removal therapy. Being a skin specialist recommend others not to use such hair removal products.
