My June Sample Society Box

Love getting my monthly deliveries! Sample Society is a beauty subscription site by BeautyBar.com. For $15 a month, you'll receive 5 deluxe-sized samples, $15 gift code to redeem on a $50 purchase, and get expert beauty advice to accompany your samples from the editors of Allure. I joined because I felt like other beauty subscription services gave very small samples, so small you could barely even get one use out of them. Two of the products were SUPER tiny this month which is unfortunate. Here's what I got:

Alterna's Bamboo Style Boho Waves Tousled Texture Mist (.85 fl oz) | Murad Clarifying Cleanser (2 fl oz) | Oscar de la Renta "Live in Love" perfume sample (.1 fl oz) | jane iredale Just Kissed Lip Plumper in Tokyo | Caudalie Premier Cru La Creme Yeux (Eye Cream) (.03 fl oz sample)

Murad's cleanser claims to penetrate deep to fight blemishes where they begin, eliminate 99.9% of surface bacteria in 60 seconds as well as clear blemishes and prevent new breakouts. It had a very strong smell and tingling sensation when I applied. It contains 1.5% Salicylic Acid which definitely left my face a little red after using.

This is about all of the eye cream that was in the tube. I squeezed some out to show you the texture then realized that was all that was in the bottle. Oh well.
This was the tiniest lipstick I had ever seen! This jane iredele lip plumper lipstick is supposed to have special peptides that give moisture and visible plumping that lasts. It is tinted cool mint and ginger lip plumper. I definitely felt the mint but not so sure I buy into these "lip plumper" products.

They are clearly a fan of Oscar de la Renta perfumes - I get them in my box almost every month. "Live in Love" has top notes of lily-of-the-valley and orchid; middle notes are jasmine, african orange flower and rose; base notes are sandalwood, virginia cedar, amber and musk. It's not a perfume I would pick for myself but the bottle is cute!

The tips from Allure included "How to Wear Fragrance Politely" suggesting you apply it naked when you first get out of the shower as close to your body as you can so you don't waste some in the air. Maximum of three sprays!

What did you get in your box this month?

  1. I just got my first Birchbox last month and was kind of disappointed in the size. These samples seem much bigger so I may have to try Sample Society out!

  3. I didn't get any boxes, but would have loved to receive the Oscar de la Renta perfume sample. And that really is the tiniest lip stick.

  5. The perfume has some of my favorite notes in it-- but I worry it'd almost be too floral and sweet and soft?!

  7. It must be nice to get a little "gift" of beauty products in your mailbox each month:) I don't have any experience with any of the products mentioned in your post, but I love the facial sunscreen from Caudalie!

  8. I've been looking around for sites that offer good samples to try but I'm a bit lost since I'm relatively new to this. In your opinion, what makes sample society better than the other ones like Birchbox or Glossybox...?

    1. Well I actually subscribe to all of them because each offers their own benefits. Birchbox is the cheapest at $10/month and is good for beauty newbies. For those who are a little familiar with beauty brands, Sample Society offers so more high-end brands and large sizes for $15/month. Glossybox just came from the UK to the US and is $21/month which is a bit pricey, but larger samples. Another down side is a lot of the brands are UK based so is difficult to find here in the US.

      Hope I answered your question!
