Cut On Your Bias Let's You Pick The Designs That Get Created

Ever wanted to be a designer but just didn't have the skill set? Cut On Your Bias let's you be the designer by voting on your favorite looks. COYB is a crowdsourced, social design platform allowing fashion designers to engage users in the creative process. Fashion brands provide sketch, fabric, and color choices, and Cut On Your Bias makes these options available to users in an elegant, fun, gamified format. All options available for online interaction are pre-selected by the designers themselves, creating an opportunity for virtual collaboration between consumer and designer. Designers can then elect to make the winning styles available for purchase.

Based in New York City, Cut On Your Bias is the online shopping destination for fashionistas who want to play a more active role in creating the items they purchase. Founder and CEO Louis Monoyudis and his team have partnered with 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists Carlos Campos, Antonio Azzuolo, and Timo Weiland, as well as Tribune Standard, Hyden Yoo, BHON and others. “The idea came to me when I was contemplating creating my own collection after a decade as a designer for Calvin Klein, John Varvatos and Tommy Hilfiger,” says Monoyudis, a Harvard and Parsons graduate. “I pulled out a decade of swatches, sketches and ideas and covered every surface in my apartment. It was so overwhelming that I invited some friends over to help me choose their favorites as the starting point. That’s when the light bulb went off and Cut On Your Bias was conceived.”

I am such a huge supporter of this idea! I think it's a great way to get exposure for upcoming designers as well as getting the customer involved in the process. Today on the site there is this beautiful Jane Oh 100% Silk Crepe de Chine design for you to vote on. Customers get to choose which of the 2 sleeveless styles should win as well as what color. The combination that gets the most votes will then be available for pre-order. Best of all, if a user creates the winning combination, she receives a reward of a discount towards the purchase of that item.

A special discount is being offered for my readers - HOORAY! Readers who cast votes for all 4 styles in Jane Oh get a discount code for $25 credit on the site. To earn this credit you must include that you're reader of I Have A Degree In This! on your profile page in the "About Me" section. COYB will then send you the discount to those who do so.

Now go out and vote!

  2. Excellent idea! I actually used to draw a lot of designs when I was a teenager, it was my favourite hobby:) Didn't know how to sew, though, so the drawings mostly ended up in my desk drawer. I'll definitely check out this page!
