FBFF: Outfit Planning

1. How do you go about picking your outfit for the day? (Do you lay stuff out the night before? Do you plan a whole week's worth of looks Sunday night? Do you wing it every morning?)
Oh man, there's so many ways. I don't typically stick to one. If it's an interview or a networking event, I will lay my outfit out. Most days I just wing it and gauge what kind of mood I'm in. Perhaps I'm feeling more edgy while another day I'll feel more preppy. This may sound weird but sometimes I've even dreamt up my outfit so the next day I know what I want to wear. My brain never shuts off!

2. Do you try stuff on and then take pics to see how it looks, like Cher in Clueless?
I wish I could plan outfits like Cher! I think as bloggers we take pics of our outfits so we do something similar. I don't do that every day but it helps to see what looks good on you. I at least check myself in the mirror before heading out the door to make sure everything is in order.

3. And are you consistent in your planning or lack thereof, or is your planning limited to special events?
As I said in question 1, my planning is usually reserved for special events and more important occasions. Or if I purchased a new item of clothing that I want to wear, I'll layout an outfit around it.

4. Do you have a way of keeping track of which outfits you wore when?
No. I'm not that concerned with it. I will try to consciously remix a particular item so I don't feel like I'm wearing the same outfit over and over. I have a pretty good memory and I can usually remember the last time I wore something.

5. How do you come up with new clothing combinations? (An app? Computer program? Trial and error?)
I know there are several apps on the market to help you keep track of your closet and looks but I find it's a lot of work to put in. I find inspiration from bloggers or street style I see here in New York. Or a creative idea comes to me. Inspiration is everywhere so it's about keeping your eyes open.

How do you plan your outfits?

  1. I'm a planner lol Every Sunday I try to plan outfits out for the week they usually change during the week. I find inspiration in street style and other bloggers too. Also I just WISH i had a closet like Cher lol

    1. WOW! I could never plan outfits that far in advance haha

Don't we all wish we could have closets like Cher :)

  2. I've been obsessed with Cher's closet since I was a little girl. I kind of just throw things together - I get inspired by different things I see - street style or pictures online/in magazines, and then put my own twist on it. I've been really, really into colors lately, which adds a little something to every outfit. I wish I was more of a planner though!

    1. haha haven't we all? I'm the same way... I wonder if my outfits would be better if I planned them versus unplanned

  3. I was planning to do a post on this, but things came up and I didn't have time! I try to plan outfits the night before, but that doesn't always happen:) And right now my wardrobe's in a mess and inbetween seasons. Need to do a closet cleanout real soon!

    1. It happens! Yeah I did my "spring cleaning" too soon and now it's been super cold in the city :(

  4. I agree, there is nothing worse than thinking you have an outfit planned for it to look horrible once you get it on.

Great blog, btw. Your open letter to the tourists made me laugh out loud.

  5. Such an interesting read! I only plan for certain "special" occasions too. OTW I just go by my mood. However, I've never had a dream about my outfit! That's amazing!

    xo, sam

    1. haha thank you, thank you :) Wow you have amazing outfits so I'm surprised you don't plan them
