Jackson Pollock Nail Art Tutorial

Inspiration

Jackson Pollock was known for his paint splatter technique rather than using actual brushes strokes. I thought I'd do a little update to my Blood Splatter nails with neon colors. I used:

China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy; China Glaze Sun Worshiper; Essie Bermuda Short; Pop Beauty 23 Yellow; Julep Emmanuelle
The two China Glaze polishes are from their Poolside Collection so they are getting old. This manicure idea is a good way to use nail polishes that are on their last leg before tossing. Now onto the how to:

I started with a "blank canvas" using Julep's Emmanuelle.

Tape around your nails (since I no longer had my latex gloves). Let me emphasize: You can't use enough tape since it is extremely messy!

Using the brush didn't give the "splatter" affect I was trying to achieve. I switched it up with chopsticks. I used the top of one of my old Birchbox (great tip by Seoul Fresh!).

It came out kind of like a swirl than "splatter." It wasn't perfect but still a cool affect that caught people's attention.

Would you give this nail art a try?

  4. I tried this once except I used a straw to blow the paint onto my nails. It worked pretty well. Also another trick I learned (I didn't know this at the time) is that nail polish doesn't stick to Vaseline. So you could put it on your hands before hand, just try not to get it on your nail beds. :)
