FBFF: Would You Dare to Wear It Twice?

Apparently there's a trend sweeping the blogosphere of only wearing one item once. Who has enough room in their closet to do that? Not me! Katy of Modly Chic asked us to discuss this topic for FBFF this week.

1. Are you a one-time wearer?
The only time I've been guilty of wearing something once is if it I thought it would look good then it didn't or if I tried to squeeze into something that clearly wasn't going to fit. If I wear it once, then it means I donated that item to Goowill. It's never because I have such an abundant amount of clothes that I can pass through clothes like tissues. I wish! I definitely have a staple wardrobe that I recycle.

2. Do you feel the need to purchase something new for an evening out or a special event?
Yes. There are many occasions to buy a new outfit: weddings, graduation, or networking events where you want to look professional. I am not a big time dress wearer so I don't feel like I have a go-to professional looking dress that transcends occasions. I tend to buy one if I need to like for my cousin's wedding which was at a church. Gotta cover your shoulders at church and none of my dresses were appropriate.

I look totally different with bangs...

3. Re-mixing is something a lot of bloggers are proud of being able to accomplish - are you a re-mixing pro or do you shy away from posting items frequently? Why?
Well I just posted about outfits that are very similar in my latest post about the Mob Wives taping. I don't shy away from it because I'm a girl on a budget so you're bound to see repeats. Yes, I try to stylize them differently because no one wants to the see the same exact outfit twice. I have not participated in a 30 by 30 or remixing challenge. I think it's a great way to explore new ways of styling your current wardrobe though so perhaps I will in the future.

4. Do you have a clothing budget or are you an impulse buyer?
I have a budget but I'm also an impulse buyer so rarely do I stay within the budget (lol!). I've found when I've gone out shopping with my list after holding off for awhile that I can never find those items! I feel that I luck out better if I spy something I love at the store and buy it then. It's not the most economical and I've definitely slowed down but my list of desired items is growing longer so I have yet to find the perfect solution. Any ideas?

5. Do you find yourself bored when reading a blog in which clothing items are often remixed and appear frequently?
No, not at all! I admire their creativity. I especially love when they have a similar or exact clothing item I have so I can get new ideas of how to wear it. For example, Kimberly of Fab Finds Under $50 has the same Old Navy leopard cardigan I have. I wore it like this and she remixes it quite often on her blog (one outfit example pictured above).

Have you ever committed this crime?

  1. hmm... i don't really consider myself a fashion blogger per se so i don't know whether my perspective would be different if i felt like i had certain kinds of obligations that come along with posting outfits often (for example, thinking i need to provide new material for my readers, seeing my blog as a vehicle for showcasing different designers and companies). that said, it strikes me as a wasteful to think you can only wear an item once. i think sometimes it is easy to forget what a huge impact fashion production has on the environment (here is a kind of old article on the phenomena of "fast fashion": http://ehp03.niehs.nih.gov/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1289%2Fehp.115-a449).
just personally, i find that even though i have a fairly deep closet, sometimes i just fall in love with a particular item and just want to wear it over and over again. it would suck to have to suppress myself in that way :)
as a reader, i don't know... i kind of like bloggers that seem more realistic to my life- and, realistically, i wear the same things often! sometimes i like reading stuff of total fantasy (when it comes to my life, at least) like the cherry blossom girl (everything she does is gorgeous!!).
anyways, though, i guess it depends on the goals of these bloggers and the kind of blogs they run. there is such a variety in the blog community (which is something that i really like) so perhaps wear once fashion is something that makes sense in particular contexts. it is a bit hard for me to imagine what those contexts might be but maybe it makes sense for some people? for me, it would just be ridiculous and, to be honest, not all that fun.

    1. Great point about fast fashion! I also prefer bloggers who are more realistic. But it's sad because fashion bloggers started out as real girls just posting their outfits but it's turned into this craze where they get a fancy photographer and think they're in a magazine. I can't relate :/

  2. I should totally just donate things that don't fit right, but I usually try to restyle things and end up really uncomfortable for the whole day. I definitely repeat things all the time, but the end goal for my wardrobe is basically to have slightly different versions of the same thing, haha.

  4. I love remixing and wearing the same items over. If a look works, why not wear it all the time. I'm currently doing that with my yellow jeans! I'm wearing them everywhere. I have key favourites that I wear more than others.

  5. Loved reading your answers! I don't consier myself an actual fashion blogger and I don't do OOTD posts, but I still had a lot of fun doing this FBFF, and it was inspiring and interesting to read what the other participants said:) And you're so spot on in your reply to Miss Sopie - I couldn't agree more!

  7. Blogging made me more aware of my "constant" want for clothes/accessories. Lately I've started thrifting and taking on diy projects to still keep my want/wishes but also keep my bank account smiling. One thing I would love to try is a blog swap meeting.

    1. Yeah that's one reason we did the last swap a few weeks ago. Unfortunately as a host I was too busy to even swap :(

  8. Ha Ha!! Love this topic! I definitely rewear clothes and try to remix them, although sometimes it ends up being the exact same outfit. {I had a post about this in November!} For special events, I try to remember what I wore previously and if I would run into the same people!

And I LOVE your fuzzy sweater! I used to have one like that and now I'm sad that it was donated! And it's crazy how much of a difference bangs make!

  9. Great topic! I rewear clothes all the time. I buy them because I love them, so I'm not going to just wear them once and be done.

  10. Uh, I stumbled upon this post accidentally, but could not resist the opportunity to comment. Ladies, Ladies, pleeeeeeease!!!!! In an economy that is still trying to get itself out of the hole, and in the most wasteful culture on earth we need SANITY!!!!! No wonder the French think we are all obnoxious. Look at Karl Lagerfeld..... He is seen wearing the same thing ALL THE TIME!!!!!! It's the secret of the French and of graceful and beautiful women everywhere. STYLE......not how much you spend, or how much you have. A French woman will wear the same dress she paid a month's salary for that is exquisitely detailed and constructed and change her jewelry. She throws on a new scarf and her signature scent and doesn't give it a second thought. We American women try too hard and it shows in our clumsy outfits and overdone accessories. Find your style...invest in beautiful pieces and a few cheapo fun items and have fun!!!! I know of what I speak. I have been in the Fashion industry for 30 years, was a Fashion Director and now in work in the Visual and Display side of a highly respected women's retailer..........

    1. Well I'm glad you stumbled upon it. I definitely agree that investment pieces are the way to go with changes to accessories. Wish you didn't post anonymously since I liked all your points :)
