My January Birchbox

After there was a little bump in the road last month and we didn't receive any boxes in December, I was hoping the Birchbox for January would start 2012 with a bang. Not quite. There were some improvements such as new card designs and a little tip guide to help with new year's resolutions. But overall, not impressive. The theme was "Clarity" and they explained how they included "products that will help you start 2012 with a fresh face and optimistic mood." Let's see what's inside...

Inside there were only 4 beauty products along with a Larabar and a Birchbox magnet.

I received:

- Borghese CuraForte Moisture Intensifier (full size $67.50). That is one expensive facial cleanser!
- Juicy Couture's Viva La Juicy sample perfume (Full size starts at $69). I actually used to wear this perfume and really like it.
- Jouer's Body Butter (full size $32). It didn't seem as thick as Clinique's body butter (which I love!) and has a strong scent but I'll keep it in my purse to help my dry, winter hands.
- stila's Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Peacock ($20). The only full sized product. Peacock is a teal green color. I'm a fan of Stila products and it did have fairly good smudge proof power:

- LARABAR mini in Coconut Cream Pie. I received one of these in my Influenster Voxbox and wasn't a big fan of the taste but love what the company does charity wise.

To go with the theme "Clarity" they offered advice for mini detoxes. The card says:
  • For your mind: Turn off your computer, iPhone or Blackberry one hour before bed. You'll sleep soundly and wake up sunny, not stressed.
  • For your relationships: Send your grandma a handwritten note, give your little sis a all, or tell a colleague they're doing a great job.
  • For your closet: Take out anything that makes you feel less-than-awesome and donate it to a charity like Dress for Success.
  • For your diet: Cut out processed foods for a few days. Focus on fruits, veggies, whole grains, and plenty of dark chocolate.
  • For your bathroom cabinet: Check expiration dates and throw out any products past their prime. (A MUST!)

What did you receive in your Birchbox this month?

  1. I have to admit, I was so excited to try Birchbox and got one month and then cancelled...was so disappointed. Figured I would have better luck heading over to Sephora myself and asking for some samples.

  2. This month I got Origins Checks and Balances face wash, and that sample combined with the stila pencil made it worth it! It's super frothy :) And I did not like the larabar very much - was yours very gooey too? The texture threw me off.

  3. i gave up on birchbox months ago.

while there were some really good items at times, i got a box with something that was so off for a person of my color and that turned me completely off.
