New Trend: Baring Your Upper Midriff

I'm not a big fan of midriff baring because not many of us can wear it. But lately there's been a trend that I think is oddly sexy. I think it's less trashy than showing your belly button but there's a new region celebs are showing off: the upper midriff. I especially like it in a cut out dress.

Rihanna has been spotted in several upper midriff baring outfits. I think this outfit would look less fashionable if her belly button was exposed. No?

Keira Knightley recently wore it to a movie premiere. I loved it on her!

Kate Bosworth mixed prints while baring her upper midriff.

My girl Leighton has bared it (alright, maybe not her best look lol!).

Solange isn't afraid to show it off.

Nicole Richie took this trend into the evening.

Would you wear this trend?

  2. Okay, I have to admit that I kind of love this. It's definitely a modern take on midriff baring, though I guess it's actually kind of retro. It's definitely got a mid-century vibe, although it's a modern spin on it. I've dabbled in this, and I think it's a lot more wearable for a grown woman than the bared belly button of the nineties and early 2000s.

  3. Oh hell no! Even if I had a slim stomach... I feel this look is a bit slutty, it could never be made to look lady like or presentable.

  4. I don't think I could pull this off, but I much prefer it to the lower-midriff baring looks. It's far more flattering.

  5. I like this - totally doable. There's no way in hell I'm showing off my muffin top, but I think I could handle the rib area. :)

  7. I think I'll be keeping my midriff covered, but it is a trend that looks good on other people.

  8. @Chic n Cheap- I know, I was surprised. May have to try it :)

    @Frances Joy- It's definitely better than exposing your belly button!

    @Nicole- Aw it would look great on you :)

    @Merry Alana- Definitely!

    @Marissa- haha def ;)

    @Oh to be a Muse- Natalie? Do you mean Keira? I like Keira's the best. Need to find a dress like that!

    @Rebecca- haha well to each their own but definitely think this is more flattering than exposing belly buttons :)

  9. I like the peak of the midriff only since i hate showing mine. I tried this during the summer and I was still a bit self conscious about it. I don't know I felt to exposed...but either way I like it.

  10. There is a good way and a bad way to wear this trend. I have seen some really, really epic fails. However, like these above, there are some super cute ways.

  11. i noticed with longer hems, the trend looks edgy and classy but with short hems: straight up trashy. I don't have the belly for this look, but it you got it, flaunt it!

  12. interesting! i would consider the ones that have the cut-outs, but not just the shorter look... not so flattering on this girl. These girls can totally work any angle though, so hell... go for it! :)

  13. I def saw this trend on fashion police. It's def sexy and way less trashy than a belly button showing midriff! I dig it!

  14. @Heather- I like it as a cut out in a dress. Perhaps it would make you feel less exposed?

    @Bonnie- haha of course there is always a bad way to wear a trend :p

    @the Citizen Rosebud- that's an interesting point about the hems. I don't know if I got it, but I'll give it a try!

    @Alsyon- haha aw you could rock it

    @Style me BAD- lmao you got me!
