Would You Recycle An Outfit?

On this weekend's Fashion Police, one of my favorite shows, they got into a debate about whether or not women should recycle an outfit. Case in point: Anna Wintour.

Now usually I'm all for wearing the same garment - it's only natural. We can't own 365 different looks. But that's why there are SEPARATES for you to mix 'n match in your wardrobe. Ms. Wintour did not. I find myself surprisingly agreeing with Giuliana who said it's not appropriate to wear the same outfit to such publicized events (Fashion Week, Fashion's Night Out) as the Editor of Vogue! Designers must be handing her plenty of free clothes to choose from.  And if she loved the dress so much, then wear different accessories. She wore very similar accessories so it looks like no thought at all. Wear a blazer over it or a belt! You run a fashion magazine so show that you know what you're talking about.

What do you think? Should Anna have been "Busted"?

  1. I love dresses so much, so I do recycle them.
However, I think you've hit the nail on the head when it comes to wearing the same thing to such publicized events! There's wearing a dress multiple times round your home town not being photographed and then there's wearing it to major events. Anna in particular could do such good for a wide range of designers too with the publicity.

  2. I recycle looks ALL the time. However, I am not a public figure and I don't have designers handing me looks to wear (I wish!) so I think she probably should have not recycled the look.

  3. I agree with Alicia.

I too wear the same outfits over and over and over again. But, I am not a big name, and designers aren't throwing clothes my way. So I think she probably shouldn't have recycled the look.

  4. I absolutely recycle outfits, because I'm not a highly visible (and watched!) public figure, Editor of Vogue, for crying out loud! Now if I had that gorgeous dress, I'd wear the heck out of it, because I am not going to be photographed by paparazzi. Now Ms. Wintour has I'm sure tons upon TONS of gorgeous designer duds to choose from. This is just a travesty.

  5. I am in the same boat as you & Giulina on this one. Since Miss Wintour is the Editor of Vogue. Umm hello, VOGUE... It is her duty to not only dress well for publicized events, but also to not wear the same garment. I can forgive celebrities who often do this, but not coming from the editor of Vogue.

  6. I applaud her for it. In a time where fast fashion, and always wearing the Next Thing is publicized - why NOT where something you love? Maybe she felt great in that dress. Just because she's an editor, doesn't mean she's less human than any of us. Goes to show that clothes don't become unwearable after you've worn and documented them once. And it certainly doesn't loose it's fashionable appeal once it's been worn.

If Michael Kors can get away with the same black shirt, black pants, black shoes everywhere - why can't a lady who is wearing a great dress wear it over and over? I don't care who is throwing clothes at who, I'd be happier wearing what I loved.

  7. I would definitely recycle a look (separates or not). My philosophy is: if it ain't broke, fix it. However, the Vogue magazine editor (she is an icon and such a public figure) should not. Yes, it would be fine for the average Jane out there, but this is Anna Wintour...the least she can do is promote what her magazine has exquisitely executed throughout the years--variety of fashion and style.

  8. I'm with Megan Mae on this one. If she loves the dress then why not? Being editor of Vogue doesn't mean she shouldn't be able to wear something twice.

  9. I have no issue with it either. I know she probably gets tons of free clothes, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't recycle a whole outfit if she likes it. I've worn the exact same outfits to events etc. Although I probably shouldn't compare myself to her, hehe.
