Cafe Haba Is A Great Find On The Upper East Side

I was invited to enjoy lunch at Cafe Haba thanks to NearSay. It is a family owned business and is currently run by Aldana Vasques. She is a Jersey native who just graduated college. The cafe was full of Upper East Side fashionistas.

They offer empanadas, pastries, cupcakes, pies along with a delicious assortment of teas and coffees. FourSquare users said they had the "foamiest most delish lattes" in the area. I enjoyed a chicken empanada (a popular item on the menu), an iced tea and a pastry (which was super delicious!). They use Kobrick coffee which is a family owned business in Jersey. Their coffee is free trade certified.

The locals love this place because the staff remembers their names and orders. It's not like Starbucks where you are rushed to order. Cafe Haba invites you to stay awhile with their free WiFi. Cafe Haba gets involved with local businesses and hosts events during after hours at the store. Yelp reviewers confessed to not wanting to share this place because it was their little gem.

I asked Aldana about her tips for starting a business and she said "it is a 24/7 job and a lot of hard work." She that you have to be patient and "try to the see good in every one."  She also feels it's important for small businesses to be involved with social media. She thinks it's a great way to connect with customers and to find ways of promoting themselves to locals.

Cafe Haba is located at 203 East 74th Street between 3rd and Second Avenue.
