FBFF: Fashion Influencers

Well now that Blogger is FINALLY (felt like forever) is working I can put up this week's FBFF questions! This week we are discussing our influences.

1. What magazines do you subscribe to?
I subscribe to ELLE and InStyle. I would love to subscribe to more to show support but it's expensive.

2. Do you watch any fashion TV shows?
I watch a lot of the fashion shows, such as "Project Runway" and "America's Next Top Model." I love to watch them to see creativity. Does "RuPaul's Drag Race count? lol!

3. Beyond blogs, what websites do you frequent for fashion inspiration?
That's tough. Most sites I visit are blogs. I really like the online magazine Fashion156.com.

4. Advertisements play a huge role in forming public opinion about a product or brand… what ads do you like and why?
I liked Dove's ads about loving your body. However, they are contradicting that by discussing how women are self-conscious about their armpits for deodorant. It may sound silly but I really like brands that answer me back on Twitter, that sticks with me.

5. Do you own any fashion books?
Yes- many! Attending fashion school, you end up with a lot of fashion books. I have Rachel Zoe's book and Nina Garcia's. I recently purchased Kelly Cutrone's Normal Gets You Nowhere, which I'm excited to read!

What influences you?

  1. Hi Kimberlee, Which Nina Garcia book did you buy? I have a new Kindle and I am stocking up on my virtual books. :) Cheers!

  4. Haha, I totally love the Dove ads, too; not gonna lie, the little girls at self-esteem camp one makes me cry. But then I get all in my head about the company and think things like, "how can I claim this as genuine feminist progressiveness when they're still trying to sell me products based on an uneasy balance between telling my body is defective and reminding me to love that body?" Oy.

  5. I like the dove commercials, too, and their whole natural beauty push. You would love Simon Doonan's book, it is hilarious. I am going to have a giveaway when I reach 100 followers. What did you think about the blogger thing today. It's got me a little worried about losing my blog. I did lost a post with all the comments.

  6. Thanks for the tip on the new fashion magazine. I've heard of it before (is Susie Bubble involved with it?) Also love that Twitter involvement makes you like a brand more. Social media really is the new frontier which is great for us because it's free!

  7. I really like the Dove commercials. Some of the magazines I purchase have been for $5.99 a year. Some are so cheap when I look for deals online or a years subscription comes with a certain product that I purchase.

  8. I didn't know Kelly Cutrone had another book! I have to get it!! I like Dove ads too but I also like the make up forever ads for the same reason esp since they aren't doing touch ups on their ads.

  9. I never thought about Dove that way but you're totally right. Also, I have heard their company skills skin lightening creams in other countries. That is not very self-lovey either.

  10. @Sherry- Hey sent you an e-mail :)

@Socialite Dreams- haha they are so talented! They have to make dresses, do their makeup/hair AND be beautiful women.

@Martina Lynne- That is the constant struggle I have with beauty brands, especially makeup.

@Debbie- Ooh are you going to give away his book? Ugh it was scary... some posts didn't go up and I couldn't comment :(

@Laura Connell- oh hmm I don't think so...

@JTWisdom- Yeah but I feel like I get spammed too much so two magazines is enough for me. I have a hard enough time reading them monthly!

@Heather- You must! Yes, it is definitely refreshing with all the photoshopped beauty ads out there :/

    @Janine- Oh wow *sigh*

  11. I really liked the Dove ads too, and bought their products for a long time. I'm feeling better now about deciding they were a little too expensive and going back to store brand soap, given your post and the other comments here.
