10 Trends Spotted At Fashion Week

Finally I can post my baby! I've been collecting photos from the runways at New York Fashion Week on my computer. Now I organized them neatly into different trends I spotted (my eyes hurt!). These are some main trends, there are of course more. Also, keep in mind that I only selected what I thought were the best examples of the trend mentioned so there may be other runway shows I didn't mention. Some surprising trends were pastel colors (Isaac Mizrahi), cross body bags, flappers, shorts(!) and polka dots (Marc Jacobs). Here are trends that I wanted to highlight:
L-R: Alexander Wang, Nicole Miller, Parabal Gurung. Bottom L-R: Cynthia Rowley, Michael Kors
Red was a big color on the runway. Mostly designers used it in accessories as a way to break up a full black outfit. Who could forget those furry Alexander Wang heels? I love the full head to toe red look at Michael Kors.
L-R: Bensoni, Betsey Johnson, Donna Karan. Bottom L-R: Elie Tahari, Mandy Coon, Victoria Beckham
As I predicted (lol!) hoods were a popular trend for Fall 2011. Some directly translated the "Red Riding Hood" theme like Betsey Johnson and others incorporated it as a snow bunny feel like Bensoni. Donna Karan incorporated several of the trends including fur and belts as well.
L-R: Badgley Mischka, Bibhu Mohaptra, Carolina Herrera. Bottom L-R: J. Mendel, Malandrino, Oscar de la Renta
Designers said screw you to P.E.T.A. this year and sent tons of fur down the runway. Oscar de la Renta's was immaculate! Sure he did other trends: mixing prints, belts, hoods but nothing was like the gorgeous fur. I was surprised to see Carolina Herrera and Michael Kors (not pictured) use it.
L-R: Alice + Olivia, Charlotte Ronson, Diane von Furstenberg. Bottom L-R: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Matthew Williamson, Proenza Schouler
No one mixed up prints like Proenza Schouler! There were many loud prints on the runway, but several designers decided to show us how to mix 'n match. DVF is the queen of prints so of course she showcased some beautiful ones.
L-R: Jill Stuart, Lela Rose, Marc by Marc Jacobs. Bottom L-R: Adam, Matthew Williamson
Also, as I predicted... socks with heels! I'm sorry to say but this trend doesn't seem to be going away. I really liked how Adam paired it making it very librarian chic.
L-R: Alice + Olivia, BCBG Max Azria, Donna Karan. Bottom L-R: Monique Lhuillier, Ports 1961
Ladies if you do anything this year... buy a belt! Pretty much every designer sent belts down the runway. Some paired it with structured suits and others added them to evening dresses. I love the elegance of Monique Lhuillier's bow sash!
L-R: Derek Lam, Karen Walker, Luca Luca. Bottom L-R: Malandrino, Rachel Zoe
Rachel Zoe's collection featured all the trends but was heavy on the wide leg trousers. I'm really excited about this trend. They are so chic yet relaxed. I'm tired of squeezing into my skinny jeans!
L-R: Alexander Wang, Christian Siriano, L'Wren Scott. Bottom L-R: Parabal Gurung, Tibi, Vera Wang
Designers definitely took a note from Pantone about Honeysuckle being the color of 2011. They translated the pink color into mostly paler forms. It was a great break from the mostly black and gray runway. I thought Tibi's touch of bubble gum pink in their hats was so fun.
L-R: Elie Tahari, Jason Wu, Marchesa. Bottom L-R: Monique Lhuillier, Rebeca Minkoff
Lace is still around! I definitely need to invest in this trend. Lace has definitely gone to the sexy side combining it with sheer material. Marchesa was to die for!
Left to Right: Betsey Johnson, L.A.M.B., Thakoon, Anna Sui
I would say that Gwen Stefani is the queen of plaid. She has such a punk rock style, like Betsey Johnson. Both had fun with plaid in their shows. Anna Sui had a goth-like feel with her plaid.

Which trends are you most looking forward to in the fall?
